3 Clues That Disney World Rides Are CHANGING

2023.06.10 18:01 ConsumerofToons If the reboot came out years ago and wasn't subject to media controversy, would people be kinder to it?
In 2018, the announcement of a "Rugrats" reboot was mostly met with excited reactions. There were even some skeptics back then who thought that reviving the show was unnecessary, but the vast majority were keen on the idea of the show coming back. In the interrim, after companies started rebooting everything (Compared to 2018, when companies were selective about what they brought back), people's opinions started tilting towards the negative side, feeling like the original show offered all it can and reviving it was "nostalgiabait".
In spite of the negative voices getting louder, the character designs and first look animation were initially praised for being a seamless transition to CG. That is, until those promotion shorts started popping up. People started becoming more anvilicious about the reboot, finding issue with the animation being "stiff" and "soulless", and criticising the character designs for being "uncanny". Things went from bad to worse, when The AV Club publicly announced that Betty was going to be a lesbian in the reboot, and worded it as if the producers made the change out of a place of shallow stereotyping. (All despite Kate Boutilier not mentioning her sexuality in any interview, and the show hardly bringing it up) That was the final nail in the coffin, and people went from mildly criticising it, to waging a war against it, tearing it apart for the character changes (Particularly Lou being a hippie, and Susie being a baby), art style, animation, color schemes, rehashing older episodes (Many believing these were actual scenes from the episodes themselves), and not having a purpose to exist than other being a nostalgia moneygrab.
The naysayers got so loud that they started trying to find anything about the reboot to rip on. (When Kimi was introduced at Angelica's preschool, and corrected Angelica for telling the babies to scram, people were outraged, accusing the reboot of "retconning" Paris despite being a different continuity) While the reboot is popular with it's target audience, and has been able to maintain a big level of success despite all of this, I can't fathom most of the hate towards the reboot at all. It's faithful to the original, has most of the same writers, fixes some of the original's flaws (Angelica having a character arch, and showing a more empathetic side to her compared to the original, Dil being less selfish, having a wider scope of the parents' backstories, making permanent changes to the status quo, answering questions that were left lingering in the original) and is different enough to carry it's identity, but preserves the vision the original brought to the table. I'm even more confused, since it belongs in the same company as DuckTales, and Blue's Clues and You, which were similar reboots, but were positively received with older audiences.
Some of the problem may be that people didn't realize that this was a remake (We didn't get too much information about it until 2021), and it was jarring for them to see the changes they made, but it does raise to question that if this came out in 2018, back when we had reboots like DuckTales, and Muppet Babies, which were lauded for being charming reimaginings, and companies weren't reviving every show under the sun and the media controversies that permeated this show didn't happen, if people would be singing a different tune?

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.

That moment you finally get to see the supersexy alien space siren everyone was talking about and you realize it is you yourself…

Adam leaned his head against the bars.
His stomach growled horribly and his head ached. It was almost like having a really bad hangover, except without the memories of having fun or doing stupid shit the night before. Instead, he was suspended in a cage high in the air, watching as the ugly ass Prodigum galumphed around the room preparing it for his next 'guests'.
He would have used a more normal word to describe how the creature moved, except for this thing was nasty, like Jaba the Hutt level ugly. Sort of made him feel like Han Solo, though he supposed that was supposed to make Sunny princess Leia. The only problem is they didn't have a Luke Skywalker or an R2D2 to come and rescue them.
He sighed as his stomach groaned.
He glanced over at the other cages, making a face at the bleached white skeleton which hung in one, and at the two humans sitting in the other.
They looked horrific.
His stomach growled again.
"Don't worry."
His cage neighbor said,
”You get used to it after a while."
"What?”
"The hunger.”
"Do they not feed you?"
The other human shook their head,
"No, that's how it works here. They put us in these cages and then use us for entertainment while we slowly starve to death, and then, once we are dead, they feed on our decomposing corpses."
The commander made a face,
"Shit, that is really, really disgusting."
She shrugged,
"You don't seem so worried."
He held up his hands,
"I can start crying if that would make you more convinced, but otherwise I don't see much use in freaking out."
"I suppose that is a good way to do things. Who knows, the clients might actually like you, and they might bother to feed you longer."
"How do you make the clients like you?"
She waved a hand,
"Ignore what the Prodigum said, they know a good singer when they hear one."
She patted her throat,
"That's why I'm not going to last long."
"Tone def?"
"No, I'm actually a voice coach, but due to extenuating circumstances, I'm not supposed to be singing for my own health."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
He groaned and leaned back against the cage,
"I'm gone in that case."
She leaned up against the cage,
"Why, you tone def too?"
"Not hardly. I can carry a tune, but I'm not a solo act. I'm sort of just average."
"For fear of sounding too much like a voice coach. Most people are only average because they weren't trained to be good. It's all about breath control, then anyone can be pretty good."
"Well then I'll just have to-"
He was cut off in that moment as the lights over his head began to flash. He looked towards the door and watched as the doors were thrown open. The Prodigum opened his huge, ugly arms wide as his guests entered the room.
Adam stood inside his cage to get a better look, displeased when he watched more of the Prodigum, Burg and a couple of Tesraki coming in. He thought he even saw an Iotin or two somewhere in there, or was that a Gromm? They filtered into the room as the 'slaves' were dragged onto the floor.
He pressed up against the bars as he saw Sunny being dragged onto the floor.
Both sets of her hands, her feet and her neck had all been chained together. She could barely move, though she was still being forced to carry a tray of drinks.
"Welcome my friends, welcome please come in, we have something new for you today and-"
His voice was mostly drowned out by the intervening voices.
He tried leaning closer to hear, and was only able to tell what was going on when the Prodigum turned towards him and held out a hand,
"Behold, the long reaching arm of my empire."
There was a sudden muttering around the room as so many impressed clients recognized Adam.
He made a point of flipping them all the bird and spitting out the bars towards one of the Burg, who leaped away with a hiss. He laughed,
"And there's more where that came from assholes."
The Prodigum gurgled in amusement, the little breathing tubes on the side of its neck opening and closing with a wet sort of slapping noise. The commander grimaced,
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, commander.”
He motioned with one hand towards Sunny, and at that moment he watched as a group of others moved forward, grabbing her by the chains and throwing her to the floor.
She choked against the chain around her neck.
"SUNNY!"
"This really is simple, commander. Behave or she dies. These are the rules. You sing, and when we want the song changed, we will throw something at you. Don't do what we want and your friend here gets it."
He grinned, his floppy bulbous cheeks dangling down towards the ground, as the little face tentacles wriggled about in the air,
"Now, get to work."
He glanced over at Sunny, his first instinct to tell the guy to screw off, but when he looked over at Sunny, and saw her pinned against the ground. Well, he knew he couldn't do anything. He licked his dry lips and took a deep breath.
Perhaps his first song shouldn't have been an adlipped ditty that began with the line.
”Suck a dick.”
Sung with great gusto and feeling, and definitely shouldn't have been followed up with the line.
”You big ugly cock sucker.”
He was stopped a moment later when some random object was launched at his head.
He fell back against the cage, suddenly alerted by Sunny's cries of pain.
He turned over to see the Prodigum pressing his hand spike into her back.
He grimaced,
"Alright, alright! Stop, just let me think of a song ok?”
Off in the other cage, the two other humans were chuckling to themselves,
"Nice On that last line. I really enjoyed the use of vibrato, you know especially on the cocksucker part. Try to get a deeper breath next time though"
"You gonna teach me to sing before we all die?”
The crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back against the bars,
"I'm going to try and keep you alive for as long as I can. For your sake and for your friend down there. I am also hoping, that since you are the commander, you have some sort of panic transponder on you, and that helping you will help me survive long enough to get out of here."
"Fair."
"Hurry up human! I don't have all day!”
Close to panic he began to sing the only thing he could think of in the moment.
The ABC song.
Yeah, sure it wasn't one of his greatest moments, but he was under pressure.
That didn't go over so well, and he had to duck out of the way as a can came soaring up towards his head.
The party was almost in full swing now.
At a time like this, he had to go back to his roots. When he was a kid, his mother had always been a fan of music from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He had carried her love onto his adult life, so that's all he could think of on such short notice.
He went for a little Journey to start off with though he knew he wasn't nearly good enough to do any of the songs justice.
Unfortunately he did not have a nine octave range to work with.
…
Yet?
You know how they say, don’t stop believing!
He honestly couldn't help throwing in a few songs with lines like:
“I hate everything about you”, assuming that the context would be enough that he wouldn't get something chucked at his head, but apparently he wasn't fooling anyone.
Across from him, the Vocal coach was leaning against her bars, prompting him with comments when she could be heard over the conversation from below.
Wake Me Up
Numb
Creep
Iris
It's Not My Time
"Shoulders back, try breathing from your belly and not your chest, make it deeper, open your mouth a little more. Try using an O and not an A on that line next time."
They were somewhere in between Sweet Dreams and Boulevard of Broken Dreams when his voice began to falter. The coach insisted that he needed to breathe better to last longer.
But he was so tired.
His voice was beginning to crack and he was growing light headed.
Below him on the floor he caught eyes with Sunny who was being dragged behind the Prodigum.
Unwell
You and Me
Drops of Jupiter
He was dying. Did he even remember what songs were? He was pretty sure he didn't even listen to some of these, but songs he heard when he was a kid were mostly sustaining him. Most of the songs he knew he wouldn't be able to pull off.
Kryptonite
One Last breath
My Immortal
He was ninety percent sure if any of these long dead artists could hear him singing from rock n' roll heaven whey were getting to rock and roll him straight into hell for his egregious sins.
The sound of Silence.
He broke into a coughing fit.
Something hit him through the bars and he tried to control his breathing, as he choked back into life.
What now?
Disney songs?
Um hold on? Which ones?
He was going to die here, singing Let It Go in the voice impression of a dying toad, and that would be his legacy.
Heaven or hell, whichever, it was going to be awkward.
He barely noticed when the doors were opened again and people began to trickle out. He only noticed when the vocal coach yelled his name, and he looked up from his state of misery finally allowed to break into a horrendous coughing fit.
"That was pretty good for someone who doesn't sing, but I think we can work on your breathing and your technique, otherwise you are going to destroy yourself. Plus, if you keep singing rock songs we are going to have to teach you how to use distortion properly."
He groaned, falling onto his side one hand clutched onto one of the bars as the cage gently swayed back and forth.
Beneath him, Sunny looked up with an expression of worry, though she was dragged away and out of the room before he could do or say anything.
He held his hand out, but she vanished out the door.
This was a really shit day.
Krill had been right when he had complained that the commander needed a panic button.
Honestly, he hadn't thought he would be kidnapped again, but it turns out he was pretty wrong about that.
He wondered where the rest of the crew was, and what they were thinking.
Where did they assume he and Sunny had gone.
Did they even know something was off?
He was so thirsty.
He was definitely expecting to die here.
Because he had no good plans this time.
"You know why they like humans singing so much right?"
He groggily turned his head to the side where the vocal coach was sitting, her hands clasped in her lap before her.
He shook his head.
"It can affect the emotion of the Prodigum. I know it sounds weird, but I have been watching. The better the singing is, the better it works. Happy songs make them happy, angry songs piss them off etc. etc. Even more so than humans."
"And?"
She shrugged,
"I don't know, just an interesting thought…"
He rested his head back on the cage floor.
Sure, being a siren was kind of cool, but being a siren in a cage very much was not cool.

Intro post by me

Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2023.06.10 12:14 sugar-soad All of the other passengers on board my plane keep staring behind them
I was jolted awake and I sat there groggily trying to figure out where I was. It took me almost a minute to remember that I was on a plsne flying home.
I glanced about and was surprised at how dark it was, as almost all of the lights were off. I almost jumped out of my seat as the plane went through a patch of turbulence that rocked us from side to side.
I was about to try and fall asleep again when I noticed someone staring directly at me. The person's face was hidden in the darkness, and all I could see was the whites of their eyes.
I began to get uncomfortable as their gaze never shifted from me. I decided to confront them as I didn't condone their behaviour.
I was halfway out of my seat before freezing in place as my gaze shifted around the cabin. Every single person that I could see was staring backwards. It was like a night sky as the cabin was lit up by dozens of eyes staring.
I followed their gaze but couldn't see what had drawn their attention. I could hear a lot chanting coming from somewhere but couldn't make out any of the words.
I carefully got out of my seat and made my way towards the nearest person. I stopped dead in my tracks and almost screamed as I got a proper look at her.
Her neck looks it had been twisted around one hundred and eighty degrees, as this was the reason she was facing backwards. Her lower jaw had almost been torn off and was hanging by a thread from the bottom of her face.
I let out an audible gasp and my eyes widened as her head shifted towards me. I watched in terror as she began to rise from her seat. Her movements were uncoordinated as she seemed unable to control her limbs.
It took her almost a minute to finally stand up while I was rooted to the spot. She tried to advance towards me but obviously forgot I was behind her as she advanced forward.
I couldn't help but giggle watching her jaw bounce up and down, as it reminded me of the way that Canadians are portrayed in South Park.
More and more of the passengers began rising from their seats and I could feel a scream slowly starting to build up in my throat.
I almost peed myself as a hand closed over my mouth. I relaxed a little as someone whispered in my ear to be quiet and follow them.
I spun on my heel and followed the person to the back of the plane and behind a curtain to a dimly lit area. There were three other people sitting around with the same terrified expression etched on all of their faces.
An older woman who looked to be in our eighties was rocking a small girl in her arms, who was crying quietly. A stewardess was sitting beside them and drinking from a small bottle of whiskey. I could tell by the empty bottles lying beside her that she was obviously very drunk.
The person who had rescued me was a guy in his early twenties wearing a Nirvana t-shirt. He introduced me to everyone but none of them even looked up at me. The older woman was Edna and the little girl was Hannah, while the stewardess was named Bethany. The guy reached out his hand and told me his name was Barry.
His handshake was very weak and I had the resist the urge to wipe my hands on my clothes afterwards.
I asked if anyone knows what happened and Barry shook his head and told me they woke up to find the other passengers like this.
Bethany began to rise to her feet and time seemed to slow to a crawl as she knocked over a number of bottles which shattered on the ground.
Within seconds the curtain was flung to one side and the other passengers began to swarm inside.
Bethany was quickly overwhelmed and I watched her being dragged inside the cabin and out of sight.
Barry attempted to fight them off but to no avail. Our eyes locked for a moment before one of the other passengers grabbed a hold of his head and wrenched it around. I heard the snap of his neck breaking before they then tore his jaw off before discarding it on the ground.
I reached over and latched onto Edna's hand and began pulling her and Hannah away from the other passengers. We ducked under their swinging arms as they couldn't move very quickly.
I found an empty aisle and got them to hide on the floor while I tried to reach the cockpit. I had to change my route a few times as the other passengers were now freely wandering around the plane.
I saw a few of them get thrown from their feet after another bout of turbulence struck us.
I slowed my pace as I noticed that the cockpit door was wide open. Blood seemed to be pouring out of the door in a steady stream. I peered inside and lost all sense of hope as I gazed at the carnage inside.
The pilot's dismembered bodies lay scattered across the cockpit and it looked like most of the equipment had been ransacked. The only reason we were probably still flying was the autopilot was engaged.
I heard a sound behind me and spun around to find Barry standing directly towards me. I lunged past him and felt the tips of his fingers caress the back of my neck. I heard the same familiar chanting from earlier coming from his mouth, but didn't stick around to see what it was.
I made my way back to the others and suggested we find a better hiding place. I helped Hannah up and then turned around to help Edna.
She was facing the other direction and I felt sick inside as I watched two hands grasp her head and spin it around.
Edna's face was a mask of terror as a small dribble of blood ran from her mouth. She mouthed the words "run" to me, moments before her jaw was unceremoniously torn off.
I picked up Hannah and ran forward into the nearest toilet and locked the door behind me. Hannah was in an almost comatose state as she lay on the floor while I sat silently on the toilet.
The other passengers were standing directly outside and I could hear them scratching at the door trying to force their way inside.
The toilet was somehow amplifying their chanting and I could finally understand what they were saying. I have no clue why they keep repeating "do you have a moment to discuss your car's extended warranty?". I pray that the plane crash lands in the ocean as I fear what will happen if some of the passengers get loose.

Quotes
[After T.J Detweiler had pranked Darius Deamonne with electromagnets Anne Boonchuy slams T.J Detweiler against the wall and pins him and several jelly bean jars are dropped to the floor Willow Park just watches from the counter]
Anne Boonchuy: Are you froging kidding me?! Pulling a prank like that in my lobby? On a Coven Head of all the guests you had to choose?!
T.J Detweiler: Come on Anne? It was a good prank.
Anne Boonchuy: Really especially when it makes me and my parents’ hotel look bad! Man if your parents heard about this they would be just as mad as I am.
Ellie Detweiler (walks in): Not by a long shot, all T.J was doing is being a boy, I mean, ever heard the phrase, “boys will be boys”.
Anne Boonchuy: Really what about “what’s good for businesses”.
Ellie Detweiler: Come on Anne, so T.J made a mistake, I mean a talking to would have suffice but going Tony Soprano on him is a little excessive. just let it slide.
T.J Detweiler: Please. I mean I just made some friends here.
Anne Boonchuy: Alright fine I’ll let it slide.
[T.J Detweiler eyes at the candy]
Anne Boonchuy: Forget the froging jelly beans, go!
[T.J Detweiler walks off and Anne Boonchuy picks up all the jelly bean jars that fell on the floor and hands WIllow Park a cash stack
Anne Boonchuy: Keep the change and you saw and heard nothing.
Willow Park: Lips are sealed.
Pros: Would evoke the nostalgia of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody fans
Cons: Everything in “The Suite Life of T.J.” would be non-canon for the following shows; Amphibia, The Owl House, Hamster and Gretel, Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murphy’s Law The Ghost and Molly McGee, The 7D, Wander Over Yonder, Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil, Kiff, Star Vs The Forces of Evil, Big City Greens, The 7D, Gravity Falls, DuckTales (2017), The 7D, Wander Over Yonder and Kick Buttowski: Suburban Daredevil pretty much like Chibiverse, also there would have to be one art style for all characters.

2023.06.10 01:09 Sinktit Need help solving a serious of very vague clues for a game, I believe are Cryptics
I’ve only recently started getting into cryptic crossword clues, and one of the games I play has what appears to be a series of clues (with no answer value given). I was wondering if anyone knew what the answers should be, and if the few answers I have would be correct? The issue is the text was given in an 18x18 grid with no values or punctuation. I believe it’s a clue per line but could be mistaken. I’ve done my best to try but I’m really no good yet. Some words may be wrong, like it could be “soul tra” or “most lyadep”. The string in the quotes is an entire line, I believe I’ve cut the words up where they’re intended to be, but maybe one of you will see something I haven’t. Thanks in advance!
- “Beware the acid rages” (I made it ‘search’ but not confidently, the letters are there in ‘the acid rages’ and to ‘beware’ features various forms of ‘to look’. Maybe ‘seethe’?)
- “Scour vent and employ”
- “A fury engage gloater” (I don’t have an answer for this but I understand ‘fury’ can be ‘rage’ or ‘ire’, and I believe ‘engage’ is the operator to put some letters into the other word. I just couldn’t make anything fit)
- “Spur greeds downfall” (Urge?)
- “Basest Jealousy find” (Lousy)
- “Ten thoughts of above”
- “All themed in disgust” (Gist? All themed, letters in disgust)
- “Time make dead cheats” (dated?)
- “Ousted relic so ultra” (no idea but ousted is in the end words too)
- “Imposters of the deep”
- “Ruffians mostly adep” (Funfair? It’s all I could make)
- “Loss ur ricketty ship” (Not a clue)
- “Have you lasted out or” (Staled?)
- “Sensed toxic seas sixs”
- “Ye heart serving part” (Hearty?)
- “Thou ready taxed gold” (Levied? Live and taxed. Tbh I don’t know why I felt that was it)
- “For they are Hexapods” (Protura, Pro=For, type of insect group “they are”)
- “and rottenly vicious” (Viciously?)

This may be a long shot but I recall catching an animated film on television as a child that I haven't been able to find with what little I can recall of it. This was in the early/mid 2000s, I believe. I unfortunately don't recall the channel I was watching it on but my siblings and I frequented Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.
From what I recall, the movie was about a group of dogs that lived with an older woman (possibly in a shelter, but I'm not certain) and the villains were two thin, grey, almost skeletal twins that were trying to scam the woman out of her home/animal shelter. One of the male dogs was named Rodney, I believe (and, no, it isn't Rover Dangerfield lol) as well as a female dog that I want to say was a light shade of pink (but I could certainly be confusing the character with Mammoth Mutt from Krypto the Super Dog as I frequently watched that show)
The animation was traditional and seemed to be mimicking the Disney Renaissance style. Unfortunately, I was too young to notice the particular quality so I've no clue if it was cheaply made or not. All I'm certain of is that it isn't one the Disney Animated Canon or anything directed by Bluth.
The only other detail I can remember is a scene where the dog whose name I think is Rodney throws a ball at one of the twins' groin. Which isn't terribly much to go on, unfortunately, as slapstick is super common in kids movies haha.
If anyone knows this elusive childhood movie of mine, I'd appreciate the help!

Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online:
Yes! Just not yet. Before the streaming debut of Across the Spider-Verse, Sony will likely release the film on demand through digital outlets, followed by a full digital, Blu-ray, and 4K release. And if any film needs 4K, it’s this one.
Netflix and Sony Pictures do have a deal in place, which means Across the Spider-Verse will premiere on Netflix before the end of the year. But an exact date is hard to pin down. At the very earliest, it probably won’t happen before September or October.
Watch Now: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) Movie Online Free Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Netflix.
How can I watch Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse at home?
Yes! Just not yet. Before the streaming debut of Across the Spider-Verse, Sony will likely release the film on demand through digital outlets, followed by a full digital, Blu-ray, and 4K release. And if any film needs 4K, it’s this one.
Even though it's totally easier for us to web our way over to the couch, the film will first come out exclusively in theaters. This means it'll take a little while before you can watch it at home. But that doesn't mean it won't ever make it out into home video!
As of right now, the new Marvel movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse can only be watched in theaters. But it likely won't be long until the film swings its way onto one of the most popular streaming sites.
Unlike the other Spidey movies, it likely won't be on Disney+ as it's technically a Sony film and not Marvel. However, just like the first movie in the series, it will also be available on other streamers like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, and more to rent and own at your leisure.
The animated movie is currently being distributed by Sony Pictures, the studio behind its predecessor and both the Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland Spider-Man film trilogies. While the studio owns the films, the rights to the Spider-Man franchise are technically in the hands of Marvel Comics, which is owned by Disney.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?
This film is definitely on the top of a lot of people's must-watch list of the year so it makes sense that there's going to be plenty of chances to catch it on the big screen. Make sure to check your local theater's showtimes to see when you can watch it, but if you plan on going during the first couple of weeks after release, you should be safe! But like any other movie, make sure you go whenever you can because it will have to swing its way out of theaters after a few weeks.
Unfortunately, we're here to confirm that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse doesn't have any credit scenes, despite being the first of a two-part story. There are some more gorgeous visuals to watch over the credits though, so you absolutely should stick around to watch them.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on Streaming?
Yes, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is available to stream. Just not on Netflix, Disney+ or any of the major streaming services. It’s truly baffling as to why Sony let that happen when the sequel is in theaters. For now, you can stream Into the Spider-Verse on Fubo TV and Sling. Direct TV subscribers can watch it, while cable subscribers can stream Into the Spider-Verse through FX NOW.
And if you're just hoping to see Miles again or want a refresher before you watch the sequel, you can watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and the Google Play store. You can also buy it on DVD and Blu-ray, so you can always own it and never have to worry if it'll be taken off a streamer.
Still can't get enough? Well, there's also a Miles Morales video game. The story is a little bit different, but hey, we'll take any chance to hang out with our favorite Spidey. The game is available for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, while a sequel is also in the works!
When will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse be streaming on Netflix?
Across the Spider-Verse should be headed to Netflix before the end of the year. The most likely month for arrival is sometime around November — because Sony’s biggest movies tend to make their way to Netflix around five months after their theatrical debuts.
As we covered in 2021, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be headed to Netflix as the service gets both Sony’s animation and live-action content via a first window deal struck in April 2021.
The deal stipulates that all Sony theatrical movies come to Netflix in the first window, which at a minimum, is 120 days after its theatrical release date. If it arrives exactly 120 days after, it’ll be streaming from September 30th, 2023.
With that said, given how big this movie is, we may see it release a few weeks after the fact. Either way, we expect the movie to be available between late September and November 2023.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023. Based on these windows, the earliest fans could expect to stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix is the end of September. Or, if the Spider-Man flick were to take a page out of Uncharted's book, audiences could be waiting until late November.
In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Disney+?
The good news is Across the Spider-Verse will also be available on digital VOD platforms (like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Apple, and Vudu) sometime before it hits Netflix. and if you purchase it on one of those you’ll be able to watch it whether it’s on streaming or not.
As for how long the movie will be on the service, or which streaming service it might head to after it leaves Netflix, we’ll just have to wait and see. While it may seem surprising that a Marvel movie is headed to Netflix instead of Disney Plus, it’s important to remember that this is actually a Sony movie, not a Disney production. Because Sony doesn’t have a streaming platform of its own, it’s partnered with Netflix for exclusive initial releases on its movies. But that doesn’t mean they’ll stay there forever.
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025. When the time comes to tune into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+, you'll want to make sure you have access to it first. The streamer currently offers a free 30-day trial, after which you sign up for plans that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After that, just head on over to the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app.
Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S. American fans will have to wait until 2024 to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and at least until 2025 for its sequel. We will update this post once there is an official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Disney Plus release date.
Watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on Fubo TV
With over 100 live channels, Fubo TV subscribers are getting bang for their buck. There are four packages: Pro, $75 per month; Elite, $85 per month; Premiere, $95 per month; and a special Latino package for $33 per month. The following digital vendors have the animated movie for rent or purchase: Prime Video, Google Play, Apple TV, and YouTube. You don’t need any subscription to access the movie as it’s a one-time fee for rental or purchase.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new Marvel's animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

2023.06.09 20:23 TripleNerdScore1 Trip Report: Tokyo Kyoto Osaka Hakone (30s couple, traveling while visibly trans)
Hi everyone! This sub was so incredibly helpful to me in the planning process - I was deeply grateful for everything I learned, so I thought I'd post a trip report now that we're back!
About us: We're a 30s couple from the Midwest US. We're pretty experienced travelers (South America, UK/Ireland, Europe, lots of places in the US), but this was our first visit to Asia and first visit to Japan. As travelers, we love getting out on foot, local food/drink (especially street food), live music, nerd shit, weird art/vending machines. Also, my partner is a cis guy, but I am a trans masc person who is visibly trans (post-op in a few ways, but not passing/not stealth).
Dates: May 13 - May 29
What we did: Tokyo Kyoto Osaka Hakone Back to Tokyo
Tips and tricks: - Definitely get your walking training in ahead of time! We walked 10 miles a day on the trip. We're pretty avid backcountry camping/hiking fans who regularly put in 8 - 10 miles on the trail (not to mention taking our dog for multiple walks a day in the neighborhood), so I figured we'd be good - but it was A LOT, especially since you're also trying to translate and navigate at the same time. Japan is not generally a super accessible place from a disability perspective; benches and public seating areas are not common. I found myself wishing I'd packed a collapsible seat of some kind, tbh!
- Good shoes a must! Merrell Moabs are my go-to for hiking, but for this trip I went with Nike Dunk 6 high-tops, which rocked. My partner went with Onitsukas and didn't do as well - he wound up buying inserts partway through the trip, which helped.
- Work on a little Japanese ahead of time! We came in with about a dozen words/phrases, which was honestly truly helpful. So many people are so kind and thoughtful anyway, but it was an appreciated gesture that we had planned ahead and were trying our best. Google Translate's camera feature (Google Lens) was a life-saver for translating written words on signs!
- We had a great experience with Ubigi for an eSIM. The days of purchasing an actual SIM card or even a burner device (like we used to do when backpacking in Europe) are long past. We hooked up our Ubigi eSIMs beforehand, flipped the switch when we got there, and we were golden. Just in case, we'd set up our Verizon coverage to include a Pay-As-You-Go international plan, but we didn't end up using it. We also didn't use half as much data as we thought we would - we both came home with extra GB on our Ubigi plan still. We didn't do a PocketWifi and I don't think we needed it - Ubigi did most of the heavy lifting, and free WiFi at various places did the rest.
- Fly into Haneda, not Narita - way closer to Tokyo city center.
- Get your Suica right away at the airport - our beloved Suica got us through so many things! We also withdrew some cash and split it up between us - we withdrew a few more times on the trip and it worked like a charm. (Just make sure it's an international ATM that includes your card type - not all of them do. Also, notify your bank you'll be traveling, so your card doesn't throw a flag!) We used our credit card as well - the Chase card was accepted pretty much all places CCs are, but many places remain cash-only, especially bars and restaurants.
- Had a great experience using the Friendly Limousine Airport Bus service straight from Haneda to our hotel area.
- I booked shinkansen tix ahead of time, so I got nice discounts on weekday Green Car tix for two - but I really needn't have worried, there were plenty of seats available day-of.
- Don't bother with shinkansen for Kyoto to Osaka - we wound up just hopping on a local with our Suicas and it was fine.
- Don't bother with the Romancecar from Hakone back to Tokyo - it's fastemaybe a nicer seating experience, but just hopping on a local with your Suica is an order of magnitude cheaper.
- Look things up in Japanese if using Google Translate; use Tabelog for restaurants if possible. Google Maps in English is more touristy reviews/reactions.
- Tokyo Skytree was hit-or-miss - only real letdown of the trip.
- Tokyo teamLab PLANETS was completely worth it - absolutely worth the hype in my opinion.
- Queer and trans travelers - I felt completely safe, but as a plus-size trans masc nonbinary queerdo, I stuck out like a sore thumb. I didn't feel in danger, but I was absolutely aware that I did not fit in. Stares were common, especially from older men and young kids. (Weirdly, local women seemed more friendly and curious about me!) Just be prepared for it and remember you're not in any danger physically - it's all just curiosity.
- I have to thank this subreddit for recommending Hakone, especially for the tip to book a ryokan with private onsen access. We had an absolutely beautiful experience at Yamanochaya in Hakone, which included both a private "onsen" soaking tub in our room and private 1:1 access to a larger, actual hot spring onsen on the property. I otherwise would not have been able to experience a real hot spring onsen at all, as they are gender-segregated. Thank you, /JapanTravel!

2023.06.09 20:21 noyonseoexpert The Power of Cartoons
In a world filled with violence, natural disasters, and seemingly insurmountable problems, it's easy to feel hopeless and helpless. But throughout history, cartoons have given people a way to laugh in the face of adversity and to use their imagination to come up with solutions to problems. Some of the most famous cartoons, such as "Pogo" and "Doonesbury," have tackled serious topics like political corruption and the Vietnam War. But even the most light-hearted cartoons can have a powerful impact. For example, the Japanese cartoon "Sailor Moon" has been credited with helping to empower young girls and giving them the confidence to fight for justice. Whether they're making us laugh or making us think,
Мультфильмы онлайн have the power to entertain and inspire us when we need it most.
The power of cartoons for entertainment
The power of cartoons for entertainment is undeniable. For centuries, people have been using cartoons to tell stories and entertain audiences. Cartoons are a unique form of entertainment that can appeal to people of all ages. One of the most popular ways to consume cartoons is through animation. Animation is a powerful medium that can bring characters to life and tell stories in a way that live-action cannot. The art of animation has been used to create some of the most iconic characters in pop culture history. Disney is one of the most well-known creators of animation. The Walt Disney Company has been responsible for some of the most popular cartoons ever made. Characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy have entertained children and adults for generations. The power of cartoons isn’t just limited to entertainment. Cartoons can also be used to send powerful messages. Many cartoons are created with the intention of teaching lessons or sending social commentary. The
описание мультфильмов “ Adventure Time” is a good example of a show that uses its platform to send positive messages to its viewers. The show has been praised for its representation of LGBT characters and its positive portrayal of mental health. Cartoons have the ability to entertain, teach, and send powerful messages. They are a unique and versatile form of entertainment that should not be underestimated.
The power of cartoons for political commentary
When it comes to political commentary, there is perhaps no medium more effective than the cartoon. A well-drawn cartoon can communicate a very complex message in a way that is both accessible and entertaining. In recent years, we have seen a surge in the popularity of political cartoons, and it is no coincidence that this has coincided with some of the most turbulent political times in recent memory. There are a number of reasons why cartoons are so effective as a medium for political commentary. First of all, they are often able to bypass the filters that we have become used to in traditional news media. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with information, it can be difficult to know who or what to believe. Cartoons, however, cut through the noise and offer a direct and unvarnished view of the world. Another reason why cartoons are so effective is that they have the ability to reach a wide audience. In an age where we are increasingly divided along political lines, it is becoming more and more difficult to find common ground. However, cartoons have a unique ability to appeal to people of all political persuasions. They offer a level of levity and humor that is often lacking in more serious discussion of politics. Finally, cartoons have the power to change minds. Often, we can become entrenched in our own ideologies and it can be difficult to see the other side. However, a well-crafted cartoon can make us question our preconceptions and see the world in a new light. So, next time you see a cartoon that makes you laugh, stop and think about the message it is trying to communicate. It just might be the most effective form of political commentary you will encounter.
The power of cartoons for advertising
The power of cartoons for advertising is undeniable. For one, they are able to generate a high level of interest and engagement from viewers, which is essential for any ad campaign. Secondly, cartoons are also incredibly versatile, able to be used for a wide variety of products and services. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, cartoons have the ability to create an emotional connection with viewers, something that is essential for many brands. When it comes to interest and engagement, there is no doubt that cartoons are king. A recent study by the University of Pennsylvania found that advertisements featuring cartoons were significantly more likely to be remembered by viewers than those without. This is likely due to the fact that cartoons are able to capture our attention in a way that few other things can. We are simply wired to pay attention to things that are visually stimulating, and cartoons definitely fit that bill. But it’s not just about capturing our attention – cartoons are also incredibly versatile. They can be used to sell everything from cars to toothpaste, and can be adapted to fit the style and tone of any brand. This versatility is one of the reasons why so many big brands continue to use cartoon characters in their advertising, despite the fact that they are often criticized for being “ juvenile”. The truth is, when done right, cartoons can be used to sell just about anything. But perhaps the most important reason why cartoons are so powerful for advertising is that they have the ability to create an emotional connection with viewers. We all have our favorite cartoon characters, and it’s these emotional connections that can be leveraged by brands to sell their products. When we see a cartoon character that we love endorsing a product, we are much more likely to be interested in that product. This is why so many brands continue to use popular cartoon characters in their advertising, even though they may be starting to show their age. So, the next time you’re considering what kind of advertising to use for your brand, don’t discount the power of cartoons. They may just be the key to unlocking the attention and engagement of your target audience.
The power of cartoons for education
It is no secret that children love cartoons. And it is no secret that many adults love cartoons too. What may be surprising is that cartoons can actually be quite powerful tools for education. When used properly, cartoons can help children learn complex concepts and ideas. They can also be used to teach children about difficult topics, such as history or science. One of the benefits of using cartoons for education is that they can make learning fun. When children are enjoying themselves, they are more likely to pay attention and retain what they have learned. Another benefit of cartoons is that they can help children to understand abstract concepts. This is because cartoons often use exaggerated or simplified depictions of concepts. This can help children to understand ideas that they may otherwise find difficult. Finally, cartoons can be used to teach children important life lessons. For example, many cartoons teach children about friendship, honesty, and other positive character traits. If you are looking for a fun and effective way to teach children, consider using cartoons. With their ability to engage and enlighten, they just might be the perfect tool for the job.
The power of cartoons for social change
In the early days of the printing press, before photography was invented, the only way to realistic illustrations were through hand-drawn pictures, which were then engraved onto metal plates and printed. This painstaking process was called ‘engraving’, and could take months to complete just one image. As a result, only wealthy people could afford to have their portraits drawn and printed. However, with the arrival of the lithograph in the early 1800s, illustrations could be printed more quickly and cheaply. This meant that pictures were no longer just for the rich – newspapers and magazines could now afford to print illustrations, which were often used to tell a story or make a political point. The first ‘cartoon’ was invented by William Hogarth in 1727, and was a series of images that told a story. In the 19th century, cartooning became increasingly popular, and was used as a tool for social change. For example, ‘Punch’ magazine in Britain often featured cartoons that satirised politicians and poked fun at the establishment. In America, the ‘New York Herald’ published a cartoon during the 1860 presidential election which showed Abraham Lincoln as an gorilla. This was designed to make Lincoln look like a brute, and it is thought that this cartoon helped him to win the election. During the First World War, both the British and German governments used cartoons to propaganda. In Britain, the most famous cartoonist was David Low, who created the character Colonel Blimp. This was a stereotyped image of a pompous, jingoistic British soldier, and was used to make fun of the British military. In Germany, the most famous cartoonist was Hans Musser, who created the character ‘John Bull’. This was an image of a fat, greedy and lazy Englishman, and was used to make the German people hate the British. Today, cartoons are still used as a tool for social change. In the 1980s, ‘Doonesbury’, a political cartoon by Garry Trudeau, helped to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS. In the 1990s, ‘The Simpsons’ featured an episode in which the character Homer Simpson went to work in a nuclear power plant. This episode was credited with raising awareness of the dangers of nuclear power. Cartoons are a powerful way to communicate a message, and can be used to make people laugh, think or even change their mind.
The power of cartoons for art
In our fast-paced, constantly-connected lives, it can be easy to forget the importance of art. But art has a unique ability to engage and inspire us in ways that nothing else can. And cartoons are a particularly powerful form of art. Cartoons are often dismissed as being for kids, but they can be incredibly sophisticated and nuanced. They can make us laugh, but they can also make us think. cartoons can be used to communicate complex ideas and stories in a way that is accessible to everyone. And because of their unique ability to reach a wide audience, cartoons can be a powerful tool for change. Cartoonists have used their art to speak out against injustice, to start important conversations, and to shed light on issues that might otherwise be ignored. So next time you're feeling disconnected or down, pick up a comic or watch a cartoon. You might just be surprised by the power of art to make you feel more connected to the world around you.
Conclusion
When it comes to communication, there is no tool more versatile than cartoons. A well-drawn cartoon can express a wide range of human emotions, from happiness and love to anger and hatred. They can be used to make a point, to tell a story, or simply to make people laugh. Cartoons are also a powerful tool for education. A good cartoon can explain complex concepts in a way that is easy to understand. They can be used to teach children about history, science, and even math. And because they are so entertaining, children are often more engaged when learning with cartoons than with traditional methods. But cartoons are not just for children. Adults can benefit from them as well. Cartoons can help us to see the world in a new and different way. They can be used to make us think about difficult issues, and to challenge our preconceptions. Cartoons can also help us to relax and to laugh, even when the world around us is feeling dark and troubling. In short, cartoons have the power to change the way we see the world. And that is a power that we should all appreciate.
The best cartoons are the ones that make us laugh, the ones that teach us something, and the ones that help us escape from reality for a little while. They have the power to entertain us, to educate us, and to make us feel better when we’re having a bad day. We may not always realize it, but cartoons are a big part of our lives.

2023.06.09 19:39 dream_of_dreams1 so tonight i had a talk (update)
as if last night didn’t suck enough, i got a real interesting series of texts from my mom this morning. i’ll paste them here and then offer some commentary in parentheses as i go lol. fair warning this post will be a bit lengthy.
I am truly worried 😟 about your spiritual health- It’s the hope of your father and I that you make the truth your own- (i love how i got baptized 7 years ago yet it’s now that you’re begging me to make the truth my own. why did you let me get baptized if i hadn’t made the truth my own yet?)
You continue to lie to us and I am not quite sure why. (really mom? you don’t have a damn clue in the world about why i would lie to you about this stuff? maybe it has to do with the fact you’ve made it pretty clear that you only provide food water and shelter to people to participate in your religion, but hey what do i know)
You tell us you pray, you study, you read the Bible and it’s all a lie. We all know that based on your behavior. Please 🙏🏽 change your behavior - it’s a plea from your parents and our creator and life giver Jehovah.
There is just so much we can do to help you - You have to do it in your own- We watch your actions and we don’t see progress nor change.
Your grandpa left a great legacy - He was a spiritual man - studied his watchtower weeks in advance - yet you don’t study at all -Why don’t you follow good behavior ? (my grandpa passed away recently and lately my mom has basically been using his death as leverage to guilt me for not doing enough for the religion. even before he died and he was really sick my mom told me that i shouldn’t bother being sad about it if im going to leave jehovah. like there’s no possible way to love my grandfather without following his religion. i really wish she wouldn’t say things like that. it’s horribly disrespectful.)
You tell everyone about your love for K-pop yet you don’t talk to people about your love for Jehovah - what’s in your heart ??? What’s more important ??? Jehovah or K-pop - Your heart bubbles when you listen to K-pop watch Korean movie you went as far as learning Korean - My daughter I hope you can see something is absolutely wrong 😑 Please rethink your priorities (kpop is more important to me lol. i love how she’s like YOU WENT AS FAR AS LEARNING KOREAN like that’s a crime. kpop is fun and entertaining and being forced to be a jehovah’s witness is not! so yeah ofc i’m gonna like one more than the other lol. maybe if the governing body was pretty and talented like girls generation i might do everything they say even if it didn’t make sense. but until that happens, kpop 🔛🔝)
We are tired 😪 of talking and I can tell you don’t make us talk anymore. I want to enjoy 😊 my life and serve my God joyfully - and in peace soooooo get your ducks 🦆 in a row (so your joy in life is dependent on my subservience to your religion??? that’s a big yikes. i have my own life to live. i’m not responsible for your emotions, nor do i owe you allegiance to this religion just because you raised me in it. when you have a child, you need to be prepared for the possibility that the child might one day grow up and choose a different way of life than you. i think it’s selfish to birth a child and then burden them with forcing them into your religion and threatening to throw them away if they grow up to disagree. you might enjoy your life a little more if you offered your children freedom of religion.)
You know what’s expected of you so JUST DO IT (sounds a bit threatening. i don’t ever want to hear ever again that jehovahs witness parents don’t force their children.)
if you stuck with me this far, thanks for listening. this was really therapeutic lol

I could only sit there, waiting. “What do you mean, not alone?” Aedan whispered at last. His face was pale, but he shook his head, eyes narrowing. “I don’t-” “Just what it sounds like,” Recluse said heavily. He squeezed his hands against each other, glancing back through the window. “First noticed it a few decades after figurin’ all this out,” he said, waving a hand toward the house. “After everything started. Even then, I didn’t really know what it was. Just a shadow out there in the night. A set of eyes, watching when I slept. I could tell it was there, and I could tell it was very big, very old. Felt it when it moved near me. Like the air was shifting.” He shook his head again, going very still. “A ripple in the currents beneath me.” Aedan opened his mouth, but hesitated. Our eyes met. There was a question in the look, but I shrugged helplessly. How the hell was I supposed to know what to ask? Recluse let his breath hiss out, though, shifting once again. “It was a subtle enough thing I didn’t notice more than that for a long time.” “So you investigated,” Aedan said. “Best I could, I tried to,” Recluse said. He shrugged. “I could see the writing on the wall. I didn’t know all the details just then, but your Legion bitch was already working on her secrecy plan, and the other blood demis were happy enough to fall into line behind her. You remember how it was back then.” Aedan grimaced. “Don’t I just.” “Wait, that was Anke?” I said. “I didn’t-” Cailyn shot me a look over Amber’s shoulders. The shut up there was clear. I shut up. “Point is, when I felt something else out there, I wasn’t disinterested,” Recluse said, flashing a look my way. “I needed to keep my wits about me, with the bloody bastards running wild and trying to lay their law. If there was an enemy lurking right in my backyard, I needed to know that.” “So you went looking,” I said “Like I said,” Recluse said. “Best I could.” He wrinkled his nose. “Wasn’t sure where to start. How do you find a feeling? But I kept trying to…I don’t know, precisely.” He shrugged, drooping. “Steer this ship toward them, when they got close. Reach across the dry lines.” “But they’re another blood demi,” Cailyn said. “Weren’t you trying to keep your distance? If you got mixed up with them, you might-” “Die?” Recluse said, starting to laugh again. His shoulders rocked with mirth. “Not here, girl. I wasn’t afraid.” His smile splintered, his eyebrows rising for a moment. “Maybe I should’ve been, but I wasn’t. Never met a mage who could challenge me here.” He groaned, making a face. “I searched in the lines for a few decades. When I couldn’t find them there, I tried looking outside. Ran through the front door anytime I felt it close. Nothing.” “So it’s not actually close to you,” I said. Recluse shook his head. “If I couldn’t find it out there…I had to look somewhere else. And that didn’t leave me many options.” He stared at the wall for a long moment, eyes misting over. And then he stood, shoving himself from the couch. We sat motionless as he stalked past, coming to a stop in front of the dancing, glimmering darkness out the window. This time he stayed silent for a long, drawn-out minute, one finger tap-tapping against his arm. “I found a brewer,” he said at last, still gazing out into the void. “I’d heard of a few demis by then, ones who could walk in other planes. The ones who stepped between the layers of reality, finding their own paths.” I nodded, keeping my tongue still. Like Martin, my thoughts willed, though. Maybe like Cailyn, too. Recluse pursed his lips, frozen like a statue. “I could feel it there, when I went under,” he said. “And I knew it could feel me too. Felt it stronger than ever, like eyes on the back of my neck. And…the power of it.” He started to shake his head, his shoulders rising. “I’ve met many mages over my thousand years. Powerful ones. The cream of the crop.” His fingers tightened against his arm. “I’ve never felt anything like that before, or since.” My skin prickled. The hair on my arms rose, standing on end. Recluse had been nothing but bluster since we’d walked in—but now his voice was low, hushed in a way that conveyed the gravity of the situation more surely than any words. His jaw was tight, his shoulders tense. “What was it?” Aedan said. I jumped, startled at the sound, but quieted myself. Recluse just kept shaking his head, his expression growing harder by the second. “Hell if I know,” he said softly. “I didn’t have the chance to ask. It…” He held a hand out before him as if inspecting it, fingers outstretched. “It turned on me,” he said. “Don’t really know what happened. I’m not sure I can explain it. I just know that one minute I was floating through the world, with that feeling of that thing hanging at the back of my mind, and then…it was right there. It was everywhere, all around me. Like I was drowning in magic. Like I’d never be able to come up for air again.” His lips parted gently, his eyes staring blankly out into empty space. He reached out, fingers still spread wide, until his fingertips pressed against the glass of the window. “Thought I was dead,” he said, the words little more than a whisper. “I knew then I’d flown too close to the sun. I’d woken up something old, and now it was going to destroy me, when I’d grown very used to being indestructible.” Taking a long, shuddering breath, he chuckled, no amusement in the sound. “That would be when I started bargaining,” he said, closing his eyes. “Promised a lot, back then, trying to get that magic to spit me out. I’d carved out my own little place in the world, and I tried to use that to save myself. Nothing I said seemed to stop it.” “So how did you stop it?” Aedan said, as low and hushed as Recluse. “Oh, it wasn’t anything so methodical,” Recluse said, giving a short, quick shake of his head. “I was just about hitting the point of panic. Couldn’t get out, and it felt like every second that passed, I got pulled in a little deeper. Maybe that’s what did it.” He let another hiss out, arching an eyebrow. “I promised I’d leave, and leave it be. I’d give them the same privacy I was after. Promised I wouldn’t look back.” With one last shake of his head, Recluse took his hand from the glass, turning back to face us. “It stopped,” he said. “But I heard a woman speak. She said, I know you. And she said my name.” His hand rose, clenching. “My real name. The one not a damn fool out there should’ve still known. Whoever, whatever she was, it was like she was right there, staring straight down into my soul.” He chuckled, then, ducking his chin. The moment loosened around us. “And then it let me go,” he said. “That ripple drifted off down the river, and I stayed behind. Damn sure wasn’t going to go hunting off after it again.” Shifting from foot to foot, he straightened at last, staring Aedan right in the eye. “I kept my promise,” he said. “Whatever, whoever that was, I let her be. And if I were you, I’d do the same.” “I mean, I might not go diving off on a magical drug trip after her,” Aedan said. “But I do really need to talk.” “Enough to risk your death?” Recluse said. Aedan shrugged. “With how I work? I’d get better.” For all Aedan’s bluster, there was a nervous note in his voice, and he kept fidgeting in his seat. I understood the sentiment. Aedan should be safe from whatever got thrown at him, but this Recluse fellow was another blood demi, just like him—I was pretty sure—and he’d gotten spooked. That took some doing. Recluse eyed him sidelong, but only chuckled. “Suppose that’s your funeral to choose,” he said. “Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.” “We’d still have to find a way to talk to it,” I said. I leaned forward, bracing my chin on one propped-up hand. “If that woman was another blood demi, if she was the source of the magic, she’s got to be out there somewhere. Someone has to know about her.” “Hard to stay secret for a thousand years,” Mason squeaked, pale as a ghost. My thoughts raced, even as I nodded along. Whoever our mystery demi was, she was strong. Really strong. That was a bit nerve-wracking, especially since according to Recluse’s story she didn’t seem particularly friendly, but it could also be our solution to the Madis problem. We needed someone really, really strong. All we had to do was convince her we were friends, not targets to be smothered out of existence. “I don’t think so,” Recluse said. I looked up, as did everyone else. “What?” I said. He gestured toward me. “Calling that a blood demi. I’m not so sure about it.” “Really?” I said. My brow furrowed. “I just…why? What else could she be?” “Something felt…different, when I was trapped in that bottomless pit,” Recluse said. “I’ve worked a fair bit of magic in my day. Had to.” He patted the wall of his house again. “This didn’t feel the same. It was…colder. Crisper. Like a splash of cool water to the face when you’ve been mired up in a godforsaken swamp.” He grimaced. “Or, well, a waterfall down your throat. It wasn’t the same, is all I know.” The magic was different. I glanced to Amber, my heart catching in my throat, and was rewarded by the victorious light in her eyes. She’d caught it too—that echo of what our unwilling finder had said. No doubt remained in my mind now. This was our target. The end was in sight, I was sure of it. “Thank you,” I said at last, looking up. When Recluse glanced to me, an amused smile on his lips, I nodded. “This is a huge help. I think…we can get moving again from here.” “How?” Mason said. “I don’t-” “C’mon,” Amber said, elbowing him gently. “We’ll figure it out, and we’ve got-” “I don’t believe I stuttered before,” Recluse said. All traces of amusement bled from his face, leaving him cold as he glared at Amber. “I don’t want to hear another word, or else I’ll cast you back out with the other filth.” Amber went still. Her lips flapped—and she shut her mouth, drawing back. “Hey,” I said, slipping a reassuring arm around her shoulders. “Amber is here with us.” “She’s with me,” Aedan said, flashing an annoyed look my way. “I vouched for ‘em. She’s a bit of a bitch, but she’s not totally horrible.” “Wow, Aedan,” I said. “I can see it in her,” Recluse said. “She’s got that same air about her. She’s got blood on her hands.” “So do I,” Aedan said. “What, you don’t?” Recluse turned that gaze of his back on Aedan, letting out a long-suffering sigh. “Not like them,” he said, each word slow and deliberate. “And I’ll have you know I’m a pacifist.” “You’ve been threatening to kill someone since we walked in,” Aedan said. He thrust a finger toward his shoe, scowling. “You nearly took my foot off.” “It looks fine to me,” Recluse said. I clapped a hand over my mouth at the look on Aedan’s face. Oh, after an eternity of having to put up with the bastard, I might finally get to see him take a little of what he loved handing out. And the sight was delicious. “Asshole,” Aedan mumbled. He looked up, though, locking eyes with Recluse. “Really, though. My friend is fine. She’s here with me. Can’t you just-” “Fine,” Recluse snapped. He stood, towering over us. Everyone quieted. “You can talk,” he said, eyeing Amber sidelong. “But keep a civil tongue in your mouth, else I’ll cut it out.” “Real peaceful, you,” Cailyn mumbled. When she earned a sharp-eyed glare of her own, she sniffed, scooting over closer to Mason. When Recluse turned for a doorway deeper into the house, though, Aedan stood, a little tentatively. “Should, ah…Should we go?” he said. “I really appreciate you-” “Sit,” Recluse said—and glanced back over his shoulder, grinning at him. “The business is done, now, and you’ve already woken me up. I can’t get that sleep back.” “Sorry,” Aedan said, wincing. “It’s no trouble,” Recluse said, though, his voice softening. My confusion only grew with every word he said. “Like I said. I owe you at least this much.” “I…was going to ask about that,” Aedan said. “Why? You seem…” He hesitated for a moment, seeming to roll something around in his mind, but raised an eyebrow and plowed ahead anyway. “You seem kind of fuckin’ weird about me, and I don’t know why. Anke seemed to know something, but I’ve got no goddamn clue what’s going on here.” “She didn’t say anything?” Recluse said. Aedan shook his head. “Not a word.” “Figures,” Recluse said. He nodded begrudgingly, then started back toward the door. “Well, I suppose I should explain myself, then.” “I just-” “I’ll make us some coffee.” Ignoring Aedan’s protests, he swept out of the room. Aedan stopped mid-sentence, mouth still hanging open. “Crap,” he said, deflating. “I guess we’re waiting,” I said. “Unless you want to try bailing on the guy.” Amber groaned. “Great.” With nothing else for it, I sat back, thoughts whirling, and tried to make sense of what we’d heard as the smell of coffee started to waft through the living room. submitted by Inorai to redditserials [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 18:01 Bill1852 Why Ron DeSantis fails
| A formulaic campaign for relevance A Commentary - Bill Lane 📷 June 9, 2023 – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been busy signing bills into law that a majority of Americans oppose. The bills he has signed are expected to demonstrate to the nation how we do it here in Florida. Mr. DeSantis has also just recently announced his run for the presidency and with it his intentions to take on the big dog – Donald Trump. By tailoring culture war bills to a larger audience, the governor intends to show that he alone among the 2024 contenders “walks the walk”, as well as “talks the talk”. One might add that Ron has plenty of cattle to go along with that hat. Meatball Ron Florida is ranked third in population nationwide, behind #1 California and #2 Texas, so as a major player the state is overdue to elevate a homegrown politician to America’s highest office. Yes, there is Trump, but he moved to Florida after having become President and having been a lifelong resident of New York. Ron DeSantis, born and raised in Jacksonville, is an authentic Floridian and seems to have donors big enough to designate him as an heir-apparent to Trump. Still, there are no signs that he has made any progress in weakening Trump’s death-like grip on the Republican Party, that he enforces through his well-practiced business model of flatter, bully and sue. The short list of bills signed by the governor who promised that Florida is where “woke’ goes to die. · Six-week abortion ban · “Don’t Say Gay,” extended through 12th grade · Pronouns – it’s complicated, must adhere to designated gender at birth · Death penalty – “Hang ’em High” Eliminating unanimous jury decisions · Concealed carry without permit. Florida the new Texas · DEI – bans diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in state colleges. · CRT – bans critical race theory in state colleges As Governor, Ron DeSantis has a unique combination of powers that even the pugilist President Trump did not have. The Florida Governor has a rubber-stamp state congress that are willing to draft the kind of laws that DeSantis wants in creating a national persona. He also has the ability to enforce the laws, and more importantly, his will, on state colleges and universities, as well as troublesome DA’s. What DeSantis didn’t seem to understand is that there are fights that you cannot win, regardless of title. The crowd of activists with roots in the 60’s tried to have “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. What they didn’t understand is that you cannot win a fight against God, as evident by the Resurrection. Having conquered the state government, as well as the colleges and universities and having won reelection by almost 20 points, DeSantis was politically untouchable. And yet there were powerful Florida corporations still aligned with the “Woke” segment of society. The inevitable shootout with Disney would propel the name brand throughout the country. And in keeping with the political realities of “Trumpism” it didn’t matter if the press was good or bad, so long as you got it. So, he came out swinging. The fight against Disney has boosted his stature with that part of the electorate who want to move away from Trump but retain a Trump-like figure. DeSantis can jerk Disney around, mess with their business model and frustrate them with onerous regulations. But in the end DeSantis cannot win against the cultural icons of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. And yet he continues to gamble his future on the bet that he can indeed silence his critics through brute force if necessary. “Salaca doo la menthicka boo la bibbidi-bobbidi-boo, Put ‘em together and what have you got? bibbidi-bobbidi, bibbidi-bobbidi, bibbidi-bobbidi-boo” Whatever else DeSantis does, he remains in the unenviable position of having picked a fight with an opponent he can neither beat nor silence. Disney, ever protective of its public image, has retaliated by cancelling a $Billion project scheduled for the Lake Nona area. The firm has nothing to apologize for and if the dispute is not settled amicably, could inflict serious harm on the Central Florida economy. DeSantis, whom Trump has called “Meatball Ron” risks blowing a hole in the Central Florida economy. Regardless of the outcome of the Disney fight, DeSantis will likely fail for two reasons: 1. His target audience is limited to Trump voters with little room for growth and 2. He has become a victim of the cultural clash he hoped would work to his advantage. Here’s why. Florida recently revised the criteria of the “Don’t Say Gay” law to include grades K through 12. Shortly thereafter a teacher in Hernando County showed the animated Disney film “Strange World” to her class of 5th grade students. The film contains an openly gay character, which appears to violate the gag rule in Florida law. The teacher was reported by a parent, who has the option to sue, under Florida law. As could be expected, this ignited a news event and an investigation by the State Department of Education. The point of it all is that openly gay people are a part of modern life, a fact that DeSantis is missing, using the appeal of rolling back progress in the LGBTQ community as a presidential campaign weapon. Perhaps “Meatball Ron” is an appropriate nickname for this “back-to-the-future” style leader. submitted by Bill1852 to u/Bill1852 [link] [comments] |

2023.06.09 12:07 HagridGranger 28 [M4F] Sydney/Anywhere - Inexperienced and shy hoping to become more confident and experienced!
Long story short and as much as it sucks to say, I haven't really experienced much of anything. I'm going to intentionally beat around the bush as to what category that "experience" falls under but I think most people should be able to figure it out lol. In other words (and if you play games), I'm a complete noob when it comes to all things girls. As for why those things haven't happened and why I want that to change.. There's a few reasons, but the main reason why I'm putting such an emphasis on this is because I'm a huge homebody and I don't go out much at all which makes it difficult to meet people. That's where Reddit comes in! The message I'm essentially trying to send is becoming physically and emotionally close with a girl is what I want the most. I want to experience it all; the laughs, excitement, curiosity, intimacy, hanging out, fun. Blame all the Disney movies I watched as a kid for that lol.
Finding someone would be a dream come true, but I also wouldn't mind striking up a friendship at the same time because that also counts as experience! You can never have too many friends. Local or international, just let me know if that's what you want instead :) And I definitely wouldn't be opposed to a relationship. I've obviously never been in one so I'm not exactly sure how to transition to that, haha. I totally wouldn't mind finding out, though :) Also finding someone to say good morning and night too, too! That would be the best even if it's incredibly cheesy 🧀
Anyway, it could be someone of any age with a lot of experience or someone with no experience like me, or introverted or not introverted like me, etc. I don't have a preference either way :) But if I were to be reaaally picky: they'd be sweet and down to earth because just cuddling on its own would be all kinds of cool. A bit about me: I'm shy, caring, kind, sweet and am normal in the weight and height categories. I want to say I'm okay in the looks department? 🙈 I'll let you decide that though lol. I think it's super fun learning about people through conversation so I'll leave the following hobbies section blank. Then again, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give a small hint to something I love.. My username should provide clues to that! I Siriusly need to re-watch the movies again. Maybe with someone I meet through r4r?
Alright, I can't hold it in anymore. I pretty much like a little bit of everything. For example, when it comes to music, I go through Backstreet Boys phases to Disney song phases (Moana is awesome and I haven't even seen the movie 🙊) to something like Linkin Park, Paramore or 50 Cent. What I'm trying to say is I like a little bit of everything! So there's a good chance I'll like whatever you like when it comes to hobbies and interests and that means connecting with each other should be relatively natural/seamless. Or maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, haha.
I'm not the best with openers and if you're also in the same boat, then how about this: If you could have any superpower what would it be and how would you use it? Being out of this world smart like Tony Stark is an acceptable super poweanswer, by the way.
Hopefully my first impression is a good one! If anyone is even remotely interested, then just let me know and I'll get back to you asap!
