2023.06.10 19:56 icecloverfield MCGI brought back prohibition on drinking alcohol - 6-11-23
KD debunking BE allowing 4% alcohol. Read "latest research" about no amount of alcohol is safe.
video here KD showed this CNCB
news article from 2018.
The global study, which claims to be the most comprehensive of its kind, pours cold water on previous reports that espouse the protective effects of alcohol under some conditions.
While researchers acknowledged that moderate drinking can protect against heart disease and diabetes, they said that --the risks of cancer and other illnesses outweigh those benefits-- and have called for a change in medical guidance.
LOOK:
World Health Organization news release dated January 2023
To identify a “safe” level of alcohol consumption, valid scientific evidence would need to demonstrate that at and below a certain level, there is no risk of illness or injury associated with alcohol consumption. The new WHO statement clarifies: currently available evidence cannot indicate the existence of a threshold at which the carcinogenic effects of alcohol “switch on” and start to manifest in the human body.
We cannot talk about a so-called safe level of alcohol use. It doesn’t matter how much you drink – the risk to the drinker’s health starts from the first drop of any alcoholic beverage. The only thing that we can say for sure is that the more you drink, the more harmful it is – or, in other words, the less you drink, the safer it is,” explains Dr Carina Ferreira-Borges, acting Unit Lead for Noncommunicable Disease Management and Regional Advisor for Alcohol and Illicit Drugs in the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
I think the key here and to basically anything in life, is
discipline. It's not really rocket science.

2023.06.10 19:52 Grand-Earth2594 how do artificial intelligence work?
Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hot topic in today's technology-driven world. It is a branch of computer science that enables machines to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, language understanding, and decision-making. In a nutshell, AI is about creating machines that can think and act like humans. This article will explore how AI works and the different types of AI.
Presentation: AI systems work by analyzing data and making decisions based on that data. The first step in creating an AI system is to train it with a large dataset. This training data can be anything from images, videos, audio, or text. The more data the system is trained on, the better it can recognize patterns and make predictions. Once the AI system has been trained, it can then be deployed to perform specific tasks.
There are different types of AI, each with its own set of capabilities and limitations. Rule-based AI focuses on a specific set of rules and uses logical reasoning to make decisions. For example, a spam filter in your email uses rule-based AI to detect spam messages. Machine Learning (ML) is a type of AI that involves training algorithms to learn from data. ML algorithms can identify patterns and make predictions based on that data. This type of AI is commonly used in image recognition, speech recognition, and natural language processing. Finally, Deep Learning (DL) is a subset of ML that uses neural networks to analyze data. DL is used in complex tasks such as self-driving cars, facial recognition, and medical diagnoses.
Conclusion: In conclusion, AI is transforming the way we live and work. It has the potential to revolutionize many industries, from healthcare to finance to manufacturing. Understanding how AI works and the different types of AI is crucial for businesses and individuals to stay competitive in the digital age. While we are still in the early stages of the AI revolution, it is clear that AI will continue to evolve and grow in the years to come.

2023.06.10 19:50 Grand-Earth2594 what do artificial intelligence engineers do?
Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the world we live in, from self-driving cars, virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa, to medical diagnosis and personalized recommendations. AI engineers are the masterminds who design, build and deploy these intelligent systems. In this article, we will explore what AI engineers do, the skills they need, and their role in shaping the future of technology.
AI Engineers Role and Responsibilities:
AI engineers are responsible for designing and building intelligent systems that can learn and make decisions by themselves. This requires them to have a deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, computer vision, natural language processing, and data science. They work closely with data scientists and software developers to create algorithms that can identify patterns and make predictions from large datasets. They also optimize code to improve the performance of AI systems and ensure they are scalable and reliable.
In addition, AI engineers are responsible for integrating their systems with other software applications, designing user interfaces, and working on the front end of AI-powered products. They collaborate with product managers and designers to ensure AI systems meet user needs and are intuitive to use. Ultimately, AI engineers are responsible for ensuring the AI system functions properly and meets business requirements.
Skills Required by AI Engineers:

2023.06.10 19:50 Guilty-Actuary89 INTJ friendly businesses to start
I do fix and flip real estate. It's basically highly paid project management. Other people do the labor and handle the sale. Good INTJ fit IMO.
I've heard e-commerce can be good, if you can find a niche.
Low ticket repetitive sales are the enemy IMO. Or high support/facetime businesses

2023.06.10 19:49 mix_master_meow I brought It With Me Part III
Part II
Don’t
The eerie warning still echoes through my shaken psyche.
It has been about ten months since I last updated the Báthory saga. Ten months and three more disappearances. I am not sure where the dumping ground for the devoured cadavers has moved to, but I am all too aware of where Báthory is the vast majority of the time.
Even though Báthory has not spoken to me again since its warning in the wake of the medium’s grisly demise, its presence has been a constant at work.
When I arrive.
When I hold a Zoom conference.
When I pick up the phone.
Báthory’s inky outline haunts my door when it isn’t off hunting for another stomach-curdling meal. A constant reminder that it is aware of my reluctance to stand idly by while the feeding continues. A reminder that any effort to stymie its bloody feast will be met with swift, intense, and lethal violence. A reminder that my usefulness has expired and Báthory’s patience has limits.
As you can imagine, this has done wonders for my general disposition. My colleagues have noticed my constant nervousness. Students openly comment about my paranoid “vibe” and complain about the ever widening turn around on grades. I have struggled with anxiety before, but this is different. That was general anxiousness about everything that made me frustrated to stand in slow lines or push through crowds. This is a paranoia about something very real. I know exactly what the threat is and what it can do.
But how can I grade in a timely fashion when I still have to be a husband and father at home, then use my old sleeping hours to conduct the research necessary to stop Báthory? Grading is slipped in between meetings and classes during my work day. The few hours between work and “bed time” are to ensure my burden does not destroy my family, and then I browse through online sources for any glimmer of information that could banish this malevolent entity.
Honestly, the late night research hours sometimes work to my advantage. I have moved beyond keeping the scope of research limited to Native American folklore and mythology. I have expanded to any and all strains of supernatural belief across the globe. You know, a completely realistic and manageable scope. I’m not running headlong into a swirling vortex of paranoia and guilt induced insanity, I swear. You just have to have solid, healthy coping mechanisms. The off-brand sugar-free Sour Patch Kids that I devour like a hangry Kronos keep the crazies away. Down the hatch blue raspberry Poseidon.
But, back to how being a night owl researcher has worked to my advantage. Many of the repositories that I contact in search of ancient tomes on mythology and lore are overseas. The time difference means that even though it is the wee hours for me, it is normal business time for some of them. Language barriers be damned, I have Google Translate on my side. Oh, and also the motivation of not wanting to continue being an accessory to appalling murders. That helps me to get my point across the linguistic gaps to these archivists a lot too.
I have already racked up an impressive selection of books of mythology, demonology, and every other topic that could possibly lend some insight to the origins and weaknesses of my shadowy companion. Composed of ancient first editions, reprints, translations, and original copies, the stack has taken over the entire right side of my desk and the coffee table next to the visitors chair in my office. It has been slow going to get through the books. Even when I can locate a colleague that can help with translations, there is often an issue with dialects or other translation hurdles that slow the quest for illumination. Not to mention the probing questions about what exactly my research goals are.
I have spun so many incoherent stevia-fueled lies that I have lost track of what I tell everyone I am on about. The sleep deprivation tends to leave me unprepared for the question and each query receives an off-the-cuff response that never seems entirely satisfactory. It is a good thing I already had a reputation for being a bit eccentric.
Then again, the rumors about how I am linked to the death of that medium might be a more compelling reason for many to lend a helping hand to the rambling, disheveled, wide-eyed professor that storms into their office looking for assistance with analyzing passages of arcane ghost stories.
Keeping my hoard of esoteric books in the center of Báthory’s hunting grounds and conducting my research throughout the fields of prey turned out to be the opposite of a well conceived plan. When prepping a trap for a predator, you should probably not shop for the supplies in its lair.
Keep in mind, I never once claimed to be the Napoleon of monster hunting.
A few days ago I stepped from my office for a quick faculty meeting. I know for a fact that the office door was shut completely behind me, I am a bit obsessive about making sure I close doors behind me. Just be sure that it was fully shut, you will understand why I am emphasizing it here in a minute or two.
After a speedy yet frustrating faculty meeting about details that could have been an email and a shortcut to gather some more snackables, I set off to return to my lair of gothic readings. Imagine my surprise when I found the door ajar.
Imagine my surprise when I entered the room and found the wall smeared with gore and the crumpled body of a student topped with the stump of what had once been a head on the floor.
The bright green collared polo and slacks were still immaculate. His black and white sneakers were as clean as if he was trying them on fresh from the box. The only thing askew was that his neck ended in a still oozing stump and a viscous concoction of skull, skin, brain, and blood was smeared around a rather deep hole in the drywall. This wasn’t the kind of drywall hole a Mountain Dew infused Kyle creates after losing a match on Call of Duty, this was the kind of hole a sledgehammer wielded by someone with a bloody glee in their heart creates.
Naturally, after a brief shocked yelp and unceremoniously depositing my lunch on the floor I called the police. A murder had just occurred in my office. I knew the police could never catch this particular culprit, but what else was I supposed to do when faced with a corpse in my office? Wait for the custodians to take it away with the gummi wrappers and other garbage?
Imagine my surprise when the first responding officer had also been there to question me at the medium’s death. And oh boy, did he definitely recognize me. That stern face was clearly practiced. His face had the round quality of a cheerful baker in a Disney cartoon. Eyes not hardened by years of stress and worry. This was someone who could leave work at the office, but turn on the character while in uniform.
If you are wondering, he did not seem to regard my presence at another death scene as an unwelcome coincidence. His face had more of an “I knew this motherfucker was up to no good” quality to it than surprise or any other reaction. Can you blame him? First I was walking with someone who just happened to start screaming before running away from me into traffic and now one of my students looked like he was trying to spread brain jam on my office wall. He knew I am connected to the deaths somehow.
If only he would believe the truth. If I told him, I would definitely have a Netflix documentary sooner rather than later.
He asked me the normal, if you can call them that, interview questions. We discussed my whereabouts, the identity of the victim, and the timeline of events.
Not buying what I was selling, he decided to pull the security footage. I offered up no objections, the tape would clearly exonerate me. But I also knew it would not provide any evidence he would accept of another, more sinister, culprit.
Just as I had stated, the video showed me leaving my office at the time I had provided. About three minutes later, the student could be seen entering my office.
But how? I know I had shut the door.
Unfortunately, the angle of the camera did not show the latch side of my door, and thus there was no evidence that I had securely shut it. Clearly, according to the officer, I had misremembered. We had both watched the student enter with no resistance. He just pushed the door open. I asked the officer to play back the tape from after I left.
What was I looking for? The shadow that played along the wall toward my door about a minute after I left.
Báthory had set a trap for both the student and myself.
Báthory had had enough of my meddling.
But why not just kill me?
The next part of the video showed me returning, making the gruesome discovery, and calling the police after soiling myself. No evidence of anyone else ever having entered or left my office.
Except for that shadow again.
Releasing me upon my own recognizance, the officer asked if I took one last look at the scene to see if I noticed anything unusual. Aside from the Pollock-esque redecoration my wall had undergone. I indicated to the officer that I did not.
But that was a lie.
About a quarter way down the stack of books on my desk had been a hefty tome bound in faded blue and gilded with dull silver lettering. That book stood out to me among the others due to its age and quality of craftsmanship.
It was no longer in the stack.
That book had the key to Báthory.
You sly bitch.
I racked my brain to remember the origin of that book.
French? Slavic? Uzbek?
I could search through my spreadsheet, find its metadata, and track down any copies if my office wasn’t now a crime scene and everything in it evidence. I would have to find the book itself.
You have overplayed your hand, Báthory.
Now it is a race to the finish. Either I find the contents of that book or Báthory successfully frames me for murder.
Game on.

2023.06.10 19:49 Sea_Turnip_9855 Work Advice PLEASE HELP!!!
Hello fellow dads!
I am new time father with a beautiful 2 month old boy that I love deeply. We recently relocated to be closer to moms side of the family in Massachusetts. We moved without any work looking for new ways to save money to better prepare us for the future. Me and my partner are both still on the younger side me 30 her 20 so parenting is very new. Recently I was offered a job that would pay me 85k a year plus a 25k bonus but I would be working 6-7 days of the week from 10 am - 5 pm with only 3 weeks vacation time. The business is the most successful flooring company in the US and I would be their only project manager, they are also doing a complete restructure since the company has never kept any proper documentation in their last 20 years so I would be the one implementing the new software and setting it all up, I would over see clients and job sites as well as employees and materials, not to mention accounting. Needless to say I would be very busy and my partner would need to take most of the parenting responsibilities. I’m very perplexed on what to do wether to take the job or decide to wait for something else and continue to spend time with them. My dad worked crazy hours and we never really got to see him and when he was around he was always tired and irritable and I’m afraid of what it might do to me, but it is also a really great opportunity that in a way is a sacrifice I would be making for the sake of my family. Have any of you been in this situation and if so can I please get some advice because I have no idea what the right thing to do is.

2023.06.10 19:46 cschuftan NATURE: 1; HUMANITY: 0 ...OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND?
Human rights: Food for a life or death thought ‘The right of nature’
HRR 682
[TLDR (too long didn’t read): If you are reading this, chances are you care about HR.
This Reader is about three arbitrarily-selected issues related to the rights of nature. For a quick overview, just read the bolded text].
Traducitraduire los/les Readers; usautiliser
deepl.com --The destruction of nature is the destruction of ourselves. (Louis Casado)
Three subthemes (some unsystematic tidbits) Climate --As Greta Thunberg once put it: “
Avoiding climate breakdown will require cathedral thinking. We must lay the foundation while we may not know exactly how to build the ceiling”.
- It is clear that having a specific limit, rather than fighting to stop every fraction of a degree in temperature rise, has actually been counterproductive. There is a perennial problem with targets, and that is that they are always still reachable --until they are not! In this way, they can be used to justify inertia right up until it is too late. And this is exactly how fossil-fuel corporations, world leaders and others have used the 1.5C target, that is, as a get-out-of-jail card to justify inaction on emissions. Continuing to present this temperature threshold as doable provides a fig leaf for business as usual. Take it away, and this dangerous jiggery-pokery is exposed for all to see.
- Only if the Conference of the Parties (COP) acknowledges that 1.5C is now lost, and that dangerous, all-pervasive climate breakdown is unavoidable, will corporations and governments no longer have anywhere to hide, and no safety net that they can use as an excuse to do little or nothing. (Bill Mcguire)
- Pledges made by duty bearers, including funding commitments, are not meaningless yet are not meaningful as results either. Let us not lose our focus and get distracted by comforting words. Biodiversity loss and climate crisis goals must be taken together, and it is action with results that must be demanded! As usual, any good news remains suspect and highly compromised until proven. (David Zakus)
Energy - There are a number of issues to which human rights (HR) law has paid inadequate attention. I will mention one here: Energy. While energy for heating and food has been addressed repeatedly by international HR bodies in the context of the right to adequate housing, there has as yet been no recognition of a free-standing right to energy. Given the recognized impact of (the lack of) access to energy on a range of different HRs, it was strongly argued before the current crisis whether there ought to be a solo HR to energy linked to other rights such as the right to housing or to the right to health. However, the linkage between energy and HR has been thrown into sharp dispute by the current crisis as pertains to both individuals and collective rights.
Has the time come to make an argument for a universal human right to energy? (Aiofe Nolan)
- If so, five questions here:
·
What should this right look like
? ·
Should it be a right to energy for
specific, limited life-sustaining activities (for instance, cooking, home-heating or cleaning)
or should it be conceptualized more broadly
? ·
How may its components --adequacy, availability, access (including affordability), sustainability, appropriateness, acceptability, and quality-- be
defined? ·
What obligations (progressive, immediate, core, or otherwise) should it
impose? and, crucially,
·
How may the recognition and implementation of that standard impact on, and be
balanced against other HR, on both the here and now and on future generations
? - These questions (and their implicit recognition that the right to energy requires careful definition if it is not to undermine other rights) cannot be ignored given the damage done by the established global energy system in relation to ecosystems, as well as the fact that it continues to pose the greatest environmental health hazards to those who have benefited the least from increased energy production.* (A. Nolan)
*:
Swapping oil for electricity is just another business opportunity. The question is who controls the production. [The European Union has decided that, after all, nuclear energy has its advantages --among them that of generating profit...] (L. Casado)
Does Nature have Rights? Why not? (Colin Tudge)
- The nay-sayers to these questions fall into three main categories:
·
First, there are those who say that to grant nature rights is not rational. Morality, in the end, is non-rational, it is said. The idea that Nature has rights is indeed in large measure non-rational. But it is certainly not irrational, meaning mad. Indeed, if we aspire to live in a harmonious world then the idea is entirely rational. It is certainly irrational to reject what is non-rational out of hand.
·
Second: Some theologians argue that the idea that Nature has rights is somehow blasphemous. This line of thinking implies that man is in a quite different category from the rest of Nature and further suggests that the norms that attach to us (including the idea of HR) need not and indeed should not apply to the rest.
·
Third: Many simply declare, peremptorily, that there should be no rights without responsibilities. But does it mean Nature has responsibilities…?
- For the benefit of the hard-heads, we can point out: There are very good practical reasons to declare that Nature has Rights!
Why we should declare that Nature does indeed have Rights --The concept of Rights
helps to prevent abuse and therefore helps to protect
. - Human beings need to protect the natural world much better than we do now, because only Nature can protect us against the extremes of Nature. We should protect wild nature for its own sake. It ought to be self-evident. The feeling that Nature really matters should never be overridden. It must be cultivated.
- As we look more closely at nature, as indeed Darwin did, we find more and more examples of cooperativeness within species and between species. Overall, Nature is far more cooperative than it is competitive and if it were not so life itself could not have come about. (C. Tudge)

Since the white-man’s agriculture produced more food per acre than the native farmers using their own kinds of farming, the ‘incomers’ had more claim on it. (C. Tudge) …?

I'm preparing now for MBA 2024. I graduated three years ago (CGPA 9 & GMAT 750). My program was BA Film. I made many short films, worked as a editor too. I've done advertisements & many such projects. Nothing too big yet. I am not from the USA, so talking about the cinema of my country. As much as I enjoy making films, I want to target top financial positions in the film industry & work for a big movie studio in that department. In the process I realised I really love the financing/business side of the film industry. I want to do an MBA. I don't want to apply to all M7/top business schools in the USA. So I have shortlisted these 4 schools and will eventually apply to 2 maybe.

2023.06.10 19:46 redperson6233 My(m35) friend (f27) dropped our plans two times in a row without so much as a heads up, then told me I need to get over it and i'm actually the badguy for talking about it.
I could really use some advice because i'm honestly feeling gaslit. So I (m35) met this friend(f27) on a dating app around ten months ago. After our first date she displayed some behavior that made it very apparent that we were completely incompatible romantically. I still thought she was a cool person aside from that and wanted to be friends. While she was initially disappointed, we quickly became very close, even best friends. We talked a lot but honestly hung out only a few times total, because literally all of her free time was taken up by dating a bunch of different guys. I of course have no problem with her dating people. That would be weird to say the least. The problem ended up becoming apparent, in my opinion, as her inability to balance dating and friendship. This point of view only became clear to me after I went on a trip a few months ago.
A couple of weeks before the trip she invited me to a st patricks day event. I was going to return from my trip before st patricks day and she was aware of this. During the trip we kept in touch with her saying how she can't wait for me to get back. When I got back I was feeling mentally pretty crappy. It felt like the trip had pointed out things in my life I needed to change. Some sort of existential ennui. I messaged her on a messaging app letting her know I was back, we exchanged multiple messages back and forth in under two minutes in which she stated she was happy I was back “Although idk when ima see u but still.” st patricks day was in a few days. I was like “wait what?! I thought you invited me to your st patricks day thing?” she then set her status to invisible and did not reply for three hours, until I eventually texted her that I needed to talk to her. When we got in touch, she answered asking what was up, appearing completely oblivious to the situation. I was polite and asked how she was, as she acted as though she had no idea what I wanted to talk about. She sounded strange, very flat, in my opinion. Honestly she sounded like she had been caught or something. But maybe that was just in my head. After the awkward mechanical platitudes were exchanged, I inquired about the st patricks day thing. she then non-nonchalantly stated that is was actually last week and that she didn't go. She did mention that she had a date that weekend of course. If there was an apology it was so brief and emotionless I don't remember it. I was quite hurt by the entire situation, and it was clear in my voice. I ended the call. She then messaged me asking if I was ok. We ended up having another conversation soon after about how I was feeling but I only spoke about the problem of my ennui, but not my biggest problem at that moment, her behavior. Later that night after the call I decided to travel some more. The next day I spoke with her about her handling of the situation. I repeated myself multiple times in an effort to let her know that I was hurt by her actions and didn't think what she did was ok. After initial defensiveness she finally seemed to accept fault and and became apologetic. She then said “we are going to hang out when you come back, when are you coming back?” I gave her the date and after my reply she said “it's gonna be our weekend we're gonna do xyz fun things.” The convo went on longer after that. just regular friend stuff. This was two weeks from my return date.
After returning from my trip in the middle of the week I messaged her. At one point I brought up our plans for the weekend. she then said that she couldn't hang out. She had a date that weekend on the day I was expecting us to hang out. I was shocked. I asked her if it was a bad joke. She loled and replied no, the guy was cool and they had been talking for a while. This time I was pissed, but felt like there must be something I'm missing. She can't really be doing this. I called her the next day rather than that day, in an effort to talk in a better, calmer frame of mind.
Now according to what her online “friend” later told me, she had been telling him that she wanted to be with him romantically for quite some time. She had previously told me not to mention anything about her dating to him. I found that an odd dynamic between “friends” but not my business. Also, they met online I believe when she was 14 and he was 21. I don't know. maybe that's neither here nor there.
Anyways apparently, he had found out about her dating very recently. They had apparently had a fight over it the night before and he had said some cruel things. She believed their “friendship” was over. Shortly thereafter is when I got in touch with her, Unbeknownst to me.
When she picked up my call she sounded strangely flat again, and again acting completely unaware of any problem. Exactly like before in my opinion. I was deliberately non-accusatory, asking her about her understanding about the previous situation in an attempt to see what her thought process was that would lead her to do a very similar thing two times in a row to her “best friend.” She then said she didn't recall me saying much about her actions being a big problem. All she really remembered was my travel ennui. I tried to explain yet again how it wasn't cool then, and it was even less cool now - in the calmest least accusatory way possible, but her demeanor was unchanged, emotionless, and totally unapologetic. What was worse is she started getting defensive about the previous incident all over again. After a while I became angrier and began to mirror her disposition. She explained that apparently when we talked, she didn't mean that we were going to hang out the weekend when I returned. She meant at some unknown point in the future after I got back. A week from then, a year from then, who knows. After she told me it was ok if I was disappointed, I corrected in a calm tone that i was "pissed." She graciously said that that was ok. She gave me a very brief, very half-assed very emotionless, “sorry for the miscommunication.” I could practically hear a shrug in her voice. I was in disbelief of her coldness and lack of caring as we sat there in silence for a while before I ended the call. That is where the messages start (i did link them in an AITA post). The tldr of the conversation can be summarized by the first 5 exchanges
her:i know I was non-chalant but I just had a friend breakup I care about our friendship, me:then you should have told me that because I just wrote off our friendship, her:yeah i'm sorry he was really mean to me, me:i'd rather feel physical pain than emotional, I can't have you hurting me like this i'm trying not to cut you off emotionally right now, her: “I know and i share that shutting down. And thats why i feel like youre already trying to shut me out but OP thats not fair. Im going to make mistakes. Im human. What matters is owning it, you sharing with me openly the problem ive caused, and you have to forgive me because i would hope by now youd know i am NOT other people. I am not those people. I essentially mentally kill myself when i fuck up and i dont need you to add to it[...] I always feel very deeply when ive caused any issue for anyone or made a mistake big or small so you being really hard on me is unhealthy for me and very hurtful. I need you to express your issue which you have now done and let me take it and apologize and you forgive me because you know me better than that OP.” I can't accept someone saying sorry I care so much while simultaneously being defensive, telling me i'm in the wrong for saying anything, and telling me that I need to instantly get over it - as an apology. The conversation ended with me telling her to just get some sleep and we can talk about it later.
A day passed without communication. The day after that she messaged me if we were going to hang out the next weekend or not. Her intent was to ask me if I was over it, or if she needed to replace my presence with the guy she had not yet gone on a date with, and didn't even know if she liked (it was confirmed by her during our next call weeks later that this was the meaning behind her inquiry, with her admitting to it being “bitchy”). On the day of the first call I didn't want to exacerbate her stress. I wanted to give her time to recover from her emotional distress and have a proper conversation later, and hopefully a proper apology. The problem is she never changed her tune from that first day. The subsequent messages over the span of two months was the result of my efforts to properly address the situation. In my opinion it was nothing but her refusing to talk about it, minimizing all her actions as a “miscommunication,” telling me i'm really the one responsible for the ongoing conflict for needing to talk about it and that my feelings aren't valid, and her asking if I want to hang out like normal. When we finally did talk, it was like pulling teeth to get her to see how anything she did was wrong when it came to her handling of the situation. To get her to see everything as more than a simple miscommunication. Asking her how she would feel if I had done x,y, and z as she did. After I finally managed to get her to see some wrong, she explained that she too was “pissed.” Pissed at me from day one, and remained pissed at me the whole time. She was pissed at me - because I was angry with her about her actions and response when confronted about them. So in response to having to be dragged kicking and screaming into seeing/admitting some tiny modicum of fault, and giving me the most forced, single sentence, half-assed apology, she then asked if I could understand her point of view of her being pissed at me. I absolutely can not. is the way she handled this situation worthy of ending a friendship. or should I just “get over it” as she has been directly saying and implying ever since the beginning of the issue? how can i make her see my point of view?
TLDR, I feel like my friend was careless about my feelings and was willing to throw our friendship in the trash for every random guy in the city. After raising the issue, I feel the way she reacted with defensiveness, indifference, and passive aggression was pretty much as bad as it gets. Is this worthy of ending the friendship or should I just “get over it” like she says.

2023.06.10 19:41 Cosmosly I found the PERFECT stock, and I’m betting everything on it. [Archive of WSB post]
| Disclaimer: this is my own stupid thinking, not investment advice. Ask your wife’s boyfriend if this is right for you. Summary Feel like you missed out on winners, or were too scared to put in your Doordash check? $SOFI is literally the next big thing. Bears/bulls, value/growth, regards/chads- it fits every DD. I’m so sure I maxed out my entire life savings. Considering a line of credit on my mom’s house and a margin loan next. PROOF: Brokerage and 401k (in the process of converting the other stocks) Roth IRA Robinhood options This is NOT some SPAC bagholder trying to boost the stock price, nor is it a 0DTE cokehead move. This is a rational thesis for (I believe) a smart equity play. Did I see it go up a few cents, cream my pants, and think I’m the next Buffett writing this post? Maybe. In my opinion this is a 100% small penis 4-bagger and I’m sharing it like Moses with acid tabs. Here’s the 4-point DD for you with ADHD: - It’s Robinhood, but actually good for you
- The company is in great shape
- Permabears and bulls have reasons to love it
- The brand is (let me explain) the next JPMorgan Chase
Thesis Product - SoFi is actually a great product. Is it the BEST? Fuck no. But it’s like the goldilocks/Anna Kendrick of all apps. The Friday night reliable.
- The company is going for this generation’s next big bank. It is high-interest, chartered (4.3% APY) and offers everything you need under the sun.
- The whole company’s theme is: “Get your money right.” They want to be the one-stop shop for all your MONEY needs and they do it with a bank teller smile.
- SoFi will ride or DIE with you. Student loan refi, your job’s direct deposit, a loan for that cock ring, a credit card for that solo trip to Thailand, a HELOC for that YOLO stock play. It goes on and on.
- They have consumers in mind, and not in a fake old lady See’s Candy kind of way. For example: if you lose your job and can’t pay your student debt, they will pause your payments and help you find a job. No joke. Look beyond the news and you’ll see people are over the moon about their relationship with SoFi.
- They have a few bad spots (dogshit trading platform and ETFs that never move), but they are trying so fucking hard. I could go on and on, but it’s 5:49am (couldn’t sleep, came up with this post in a fever dream) and I have a ton more to write.
- They also have Galileo and Technisys, which are like new PVC pipes for the financial system. I’m literally too smoothbrained to explain this, all you need to know is there is a lot of real interest from banks and companies to use these products. sofistock has nerds who can explain this to you.
Financials - Okay here comes the boring stuff, so skip this if you don’t care about amateur due diligence.
- Remember when banks used to pay good interest, then you realized they were pocketing it all? People are realizing and going to SoFi. When the bank crisis happened and everyone was moving their money out, SoFi actually GAINED deposits. The company has said they are on-track to add $2B each quarter, and management are known to low-ball their estimates. NINETY PERCENT of their customers use direct deposit for their premium membership SoFi Plus, which will only accelerate the trend. You know how hard it is to change banks with direct deposit. Sticky as shit.
h/t SnipahShot for the graphic - SoFi has EIGHT fucking quarters of consecutive revenue growth, is EBITDA profitable (whatever that’s worth to you), and is projected to be GAAP profitable by Q4. I think there’s an outside chance this happens in Q3. Dig into it more if you want to Burry it https://s27.q4cdn.com/749715820/files/doc_financials/2023/q1/Q1-23-Investor-Presentation_.pdf
- SoFi is growing WHILE student loans have been paused. Name a better miracle. They replaced it by diversifying their business in financial services (e.g. the shit I mentioned earlier) and other loans.
- While most banks have been selling their loan books at a loss to manage higher interest rates, SoFi have been keeping theirs to maturity and getting a higher return. There is a lot of debate into this, especially around how they calculate mark to market, so again do your own DD about this.
- By the way: “there are many reasons insiders sell a stock, but only one reason to buy.” The CEO Anthony Noto is eating pork and beans like me buying the stock like CRAZY. I mean just look at this degeneracy. He knows he has a chance to become the next billionaire bank CEO Jamie Dimon and has purchased back $13.6m dollars worth of shares (1/5 of his total comp so far lmfao).
He had to disclose his wife buying on the side too Macro - Big picture time. Full disclosure, I’m a permabear. I literally have the worst outlook on things and I metaphorically killed my therapist with my doom and gloom. This country is so levered up to the tits it’s just one gentle breeze away from collapsing.
- But you know who always gets paid? By hook and crook, the banks will get what they’re owed. If not we are all fucked and/or there will be a bailout. If everything is going to shit, banks are the least dogshit shit. Would you rather buy a stock with a tremendous amount of debt super dependent on consumer spending, or something that will make money in a depression?
- I said this was a stock for everyone. For the permabulls, everything is fine and SoFi is growing its metrics like a rocket ship. What is there to lose? The management team has signaled good outlooks and the stock price has gone up consecutively since June 1st.
- For value investors, this stock is still near book value. Most bank stocks are, but considering its fair value by Morningstar ($16) or PT by well-known analysts ($8-12) there are still some mArGiN oF sAfEtY
- Growthies, this is a tech stock BABY. They are the AWS of finance! They use tech to analyze loan risk. They have AIAIAIAI in a chat bot! Upside everywhere
- Oh and by the way, $SOFI is not correlated with its peers. Look at $LC $UPST and other fintech companies in the sector. In my mind it’s becoming the Nubank of America.
- The Fed is expected to “skip” rate hikes next week. Long term that means APY is probably plateauing and on a downward trajectory. But if you know SoFi has done nothing but good and given you the best interest rate, why move?
Brand - Okay let’s start with them suing the government for pausing student loans. The CEO has addressed this multiple times: they support student loan FORGIVENESS, but when it comes to PAUSING payments for borrowers who don’t qualify, they thought the 3rd year was excessive. Yes they shit the bed bad for that, but they’ll recover.
- Aside from the revenue, a big reason they did this is because the CEO has integrity. Like too much integrity to let this go for shareholders. Anthony Noto grew up working class, graduated from West Point, and rose through the ranks in the finance world. Imagine if Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was real and became a banking god.
- His track record is insane. CFO for the NFL during record growth. COO for Twitter where he was putting out garbage fires. He knows how to run shit, and now he’s back in finance after SoFi booted the last CEO for being pervy.
- One downside, he is boring as shit. He won’t talk about who’s a pedo, how Soros is evil or some other drama. He only talks about banking and banking accessories I tell you what. Bank Hill
- Look at his Twitter Likes. https://twitter.com/anthonynoto/likes He knows something is brewing, and he gets a big payday if the stock hits $45.
- Back to the company. At a recent fintech conference hosted by Piper Sandler, Noto announced that SoFi has a Net Promoter Score (how much people like the brand) of 80 for its loan business. For context, American Express has 52. The math says SoFi is literally 54% better.
- Maybe part of the reason is because they have the naming rights to a football stadium in Los Angeles. One where little kids go to see Taylor Swift and grown ass men watch other grown ass men smack into one another. Where it’s mentioned all the time for being state of the art and environmentally friendly in the largest entertainment market. WHERE THEY WILL HOST MULTIPLE WORLD CUP GAMES AND OLYMPIC SPORTS.
- I mentioned the SPAC bagholders. They still exist and have been pounding nonstop about the stock all the way down. There are some stonk flashbacks here that are about to explode.
BUT BUT BUT… - iTs pRiCeD iN – Wall Street is only getting a taste of this dildo. Once the annual shareholder meeting comes along next week and estimates come in better than expected on earnings, this next door 2 turns into a 10.
- Student loans defaults are coming, you stupid fuck – You think the bank will let you go to Disneyland once they start asking for their money? They will garnish wages and withhold taxes on you plebs. Grow up or move to Vietnam. Or, just maybe, the stock goes up and you use the profits to pay off the ball and chain?
- This is literally your first time posting to WSB – Yes, I’m a fucking worm lurking in the shadows. This will be the one and only thesis I put out.
- Wedbush has a PT of $3, this thing is going down – Go ahead and listen to David Chiaverini, who has a success rating of 35% and has no skin in the game https://www.tipranks.com/experts/analysts/david-chiaverini Or me, who’s about to mortgage everything because he see’s asymmetric risk.
- Why post now? – I genuinely think this will get re-rated with a soft tech valuation of $32, and we’re at the cusp of it happening.
- What will change the price – Market realization, better than expected results coming soon, major deals announced, new product releases planned this year. Literally yesterday they announced “SoFi at Work”, a program to allow employers to help contribute to student loan payments.
In Conclusion Take this however you want, go fuck yourself etc. If you miss the boat, DM me to sign up for a new SoFi account and get up to $275 back when you set up direct deposit. Again I cannot stress this enough, this is not financial advice and please do your own research. submitted by Cosmosly to sofistock [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 19:40 Realistic-Cap-7635 Personal reflection on the game, and how it could be better
SAs someone who has:
- Completed all quests
- Completed Badum quests
- Unlocked Everything (Factions all 20)
- Have 285/285 with gear and guns
- Have around 8m - 10m Kmarks
- Am at best average at straight up PvP, most of my success is from playing smart and cautious (making moves at the right time, rotating and repositioning in fights, coordinating with my team, counting shots, etc)
These are the following things that I have observed about the game, but more specifically after patch 3.4:
- Most of my time playing the game is spent PvPing in duo and trio squads, helping out some of my friends do their quests, or just going around solo gathering cables for letium drills, doing data drives for dungeons, or farming pistons and aluminum for oil, or just doing jobs for scrips
- Having 10m sometimes but nowhere to spend it on since my stash is perpetually full means that I have to sell perfectly fine guns such as Flechettes and Advocates to buy Kors and Brutes just to keep my money down so I can pick more stuff up to sell and not waste K-Mark rewards from jobs.
- There has been a significant rise in cheaters after the patch. Before the patch, there were at best 1 cheater every 4 or 5 raids. Now it seems that there are cheaters almost every other raid, and raids without cheaters are either empty or full of white gear guys doing what white gear guys do.
- Dungeons somehow outclass Lab Keycard rewards. I understand that they are not the same thing, but I have over 800 hours this season, not once have I found a Lab Keycard. Good thing I opened the Lab keyroom just before it got nerfed.
- Due to all the end-game content being around the north-western part of Crescent Falls, the south-eastern part of the map is empty. The only people I ever find there are either white gear guys questing, or cheaters who ape for my brute that ran from Starport Warehouse.
- Matchmaking is still not fixed. I still get trios in my Crescent Falls/Tharis raids despite being a solo. (I literally see their drops, no they are not teaming)
- Before the patch, I had to forge around ~125x before completing the 10 Slags I need for Badum. After the patch, I have managed to get 5 slags in less than 20 forges, and got 2 slags back to back just a few raids ago. The drop rate may be slightly higher than intended, but the sample size of my personal experience may not reflect the actual statistics.
- Tharis is dead. As someone who actually enjoys Tharis Island, it's frustrating to have my favorite map nerfed to the ground that no one ever comes there anymore except for some white gear warriors looking for a comeup or just mining Tharis Iron, or those who are there to farm slags. It's a shame, because currently, Tharis is the only map that is actually almost free of any cheaters because of the level requirement to unlock the map in the first place(Most cheaters get banned before unlocking it, and the cheaters that actually play on Tharis are most likely retail cheaters meaning they are legit players but decided they needed an edge to play the game)
- I've been randomly getting disconnected from the raid, with my gear just vanishing, then immediately dropping back into the same raid naked. Sometimes, this happens over and over again, until I can find respite from a stranger who mercy kills me or until I exit to station which I usually do.
Now what exactly can be done about the game? I will enumerate suggestions that directly mirror the points that I have made above.
- The end game loop is absolutely terrible (wow, 103,127th time this has been said on the sub, i know). The game is absolutely in need of some content especially for end game players. PvPing is absolutely the only real thing that can be done, and while that is fun, why not just play other shooters that go straight to the point like Apex? Jobs are mostly tedious and annoying to do, and it does need either an update or a rework. A global leaderboard would also be cool, as we saw several people actually playing the game just to get on the howlerbuster boards.
- The money cap seems like a band-aid solution to a bigger problem. With the current economy of increased ammo and repair costs, more items added into the item pool, and no more permanent insurance, below average players are having a hard time keeping a steady economy in the station whereas successful players still are successful. I personally never really had a hard time hitting the money cap over and over again, the harder thing to do is actually keep my stash from overflowing. I thought the approach to season 3 was to make it easier for newer players to get into but the current system hard gatekeeps casuals while barely doing anything to sweats. Something they could do is just to add a high-roller lobby where you cannot insure gear, and the lobbies cost Kmarks to drop into or even aurum, and is locked with gear requirement so you know you will be fighting people in gear. This also means that if you die, you do not get anything back, and that what you paid for to get into the raid is also gone. (An immediate effect of this implementation might be that we would get almost empty lobbies in regular and high roller instances due to the players being further split into separate buckets but this change alone would bring back so many of the sweats who stopped playing the game back, and the casuals could actually just finish their quests)
- Nothing to say about cheaters really, but a few hours into the patch, guys were flying everywhere once again despite " 3.4.0 containing various backend improvements and tweaks to the anti-cheat formula and Yager adding new systems to the game to help detect and prevent the kinds of cheats we have found to be the most common ". I understand that 10 devs vs 1000 cheat makers is a tough battle, but certain measures to make reporting and banning cheaters can be done. Adding a death cam that can only be played after either the whole squad is dead, or the enemy squad is dead is one thing that can be doable, many other games have this feature. And before anyone starts going, "well, you can't do this because you can drop in the same lobby if you drop back down again and now you know where the enemy is", just make it so that players have a 15-minute cooldown per instance of the map which aligns with the time it takes for gear to despawn. That way, even the information you receive from the death cam is irrelevant 15 minutes later, and is only really useful for reviewing deaths and as evidence for cheating. Sure, you can get a lucky 5-headshot beam with a Kor on someone but 12x in a row in the same raid? That's an easy ban if anything.
- Key rooms are massively underwhelming right now. Community Room? Here's a green creature mod for your smg. What's that purple keycard you got there? - Oh, it's an Overgrown Keycard. That's 3 Circuit Boards, 21 Basic Light Ammo, and a white backpack. I've gotten 5,000 Overseers Office Keycards, but 1 Basecamp Armory Key, please explain how this is possible? Back in Season 1, key rooms were heavily utilized(as they should). Base Camp Luggage Room was always open, so was Armory in Jungle. Garage in Greens? Good luck. Hell, even Community Room was worth the trek because Loose House was there as well. I've since sold all my keycards early into the season as I have found it utterly useless and I have better luck picking up high tier weapons and armor just running around Tharis Island. Something clearly should be done here, the Lab Keycard during the start of Season 3 was perfect - it was hard to get up there, it's an extremely rare card, and it can be only used once. The loot was god tier, but that's assuming you can evac with it. And almost everyone only really got one shot at opening it, but I suppose that was too good because now all you ever really get is 3 PKR Maelstroms and a blue set. Sidenote: Puzzle Rooms are also really bad. They really are only for the reactors, and the weapon crate is a bonus, but the process of completing the puzzle, especially solo, is way too much of an ask for so little of a reward. The only puzzle really worth doing is the one by greens prospect since it can be done solo in 15 seconds, but even then you get shot as soon as you start doing it.
- South-eastern side of the map of Crescent should get some love. Add something there that would actually make players want to go there, or at least make them decide which side of the map they should go to. As of now, all the high-gear players go Warehouse/Pinnacle due to the large open areas which make it ideal for fights, versus the thick jungles of Favela that has dense foliage and full of cliffs where you die if you slip off of. Sure missions take you there, but everyone eventually completes their missions and its off to Pinnacle most of the time from hereon out. Buffing Community Key will not pull players there since keys are single use, and I understand the dungeon is there but let's face it, not many people enjoy doing the dungeon in the first place, be it easy as it was back then or how it is now.
- Fix matchmaking. That is all. Please.
- Whatever this is, keep it the way it is. Don't find out oh, the drop rate was increased to 30% instead of increasing it by 3% and reverting it back.
- Add gear lock to Tharis. That's it, plain and simple. There should be some risk to Tharis, and on the opposite side of the stick, there should also be reward. What is the point of ammo being more expensive, repairs being more expensive, money being harder to keep, if I can just keep dropping back in to Tharis with just a white backpack, mine for 5 minutes and evac with 30-50k worth of Kmarks in Tharis Iron? Imagine doing that for an hour, that's an easy 300k right there. Just about the same amount you get from completing a letium drill, but with no investment, no risk, just sacrificing your sanity for the sake of money. As it stands, in order to add 5% less fauna damage and 5% less damage from storm strikes to my shield and stamina regen during storm on my backpack, I have to fight 6 free loadouts ratting in and around Tharis without gaining anything yet risking everything.
- I understand ping limit, server issues, yada yada yada. Just make it so if you go poof, let our teammates pick our shit up. PLEASE GODDAMNIT. This is so dumb. I've lost countless loadouts to this dumb mechanic of being booted out of the raid, and now just to add insult to injury I get dropped back in but naked over and over again. What spaghetti code is this where you fix one thing and 12 other things become broken. Just please drop our shit, let some rando pick it up and have a nice feeling picking up a kor and purple set. I don't care. JUST DROP OUR SHIT PLEASE and thank you.

2023.06.10 19:39 leafisnotaplant It's getting harder everyday to explain to our clients they have no other options
So I work for an insurance broker based in California. I started on customer service and recently got promoted to key account manager (which means I basically overlook the customer service team, review policies that are renewing or cancelling, assign tasks and deal with underwriting issues), but currently they're understaffed so I'm pretty much doing both jobs at the same time until they find someone to replace my spot in customer service. What I'm trying to get at here is that I both still receive calls from our clients and also get to see all of the renewals that are upcoming... And boy these renewals. Right now there's a crisis with insurance, I don't know about other states but in California auto insurance is just a mess right now. All companies are increasing their prices drastically, many companies are not accepting new business and the ones that do only offer liability, and also some companies are just closing business in California and slowly non-renewing all the policies, and on top of that companies are changing their billing plans to be 25% down on renewals. If someone has a claim or a point in their record it's gonna be impossible to find another company that'll take them and their current one is definitely gonna increase the price to a ridiculous amount because these companies are literally trying to get people to cancel their policies. They don't want more clients and they don't want the ones that have a risk of getting in an accident to stay with them.
Everyday it's just harder to have to tell that to our clients. I've seen policies go from $1,000 for six months to $4,000. The other day I saw one where the client was paying like $900 for six months and on the renewal just the first payment is gonna be over $1,000. And I say is because there is no other option. We've had so many clients say "well if you can't find me something else then I will on my own" and then they come back and pay the renewal because they didn't find anything on their end either. At this point we're telling them yes, please look for other options on your end and if you find something we'll gladly assist you with cancelling your renewal, but please make sure you've closed the deal with the other company first cause if you cancel now and don't find anything else, opening a new policy is gonna be really expensive and most likely you'll only find liability. Clients that had one car on their policy and don't have it anymore are keeping those policies active until they get a new car in like two or three months because they fear if they cancel they won't find a good deal when they need insurance again.
It's just really frustrating on all ends. I understand how difficult it is for our clients and trust me we do all that's in our power. Reviewing each policy carefully, making sure they have all the discounts they can apply for, making sure the annual mileage is calculated correctly, offering to increase deductibles to reduce the price a little and if you have an old car with comprehensive and collision we advice it's not really worth it and to remove that coverage. But in the end all those things only go so far, yeah it may reduce the price by like $500 max, but it's still gonna be a lot more expensive now. So it's frustrating in that sense, but also the clients blame us for this when we have nothing to do with the pricing. The amount of people who have cursed at me the past couple months is insane. And I understand they're upset, and they have a right to be upset, but it's so draining to get yelled at for something you have no control over.

2023.06.10 19:39 NewRapIsLargelyTrash Yea if the mods are gonna be inconsistent powertrippers, I'm out. ✌🏾 it's been fun
It's been fun, boys. Discussing all things rap, cracking jokes, getting serious, and everything in between with you guys. This has been one of the most enjoyable and active subs in reddit.
Recently the mods have finally come back from the dead to try to "improve the sub". So check it out, go look through the sub recently. It's so "improved" lol. They just delete what they don't like. These mods are just powertripping now that WE, the actual regular USERS of the subs(not the people who leave their accounts for years at an time) made this sub what it is. We grew it, and we self managed it. We fostered a community where open discussion was prioritized. Bullshit got downvoted, good shit got upvoted. Mods allowed scat porn to sit on this sub for months, but removed my post asking a serious question about discrimination in hip hop. Mods removed polls but allow scat porn? Mods removed a video of a hip hop violinist but allow scat porn to sit for months?
That's the kind of incompetence that would get you fired in the real world.
Yea if Mods are gonna be powertripping through every post, this sub is officially never gonna be fun again. Clearly the mod who deleted my post is trying to control the discussion and push an agenda. I'm off to better rap spaces, because I would rather not live under the rule of these sensitive, powertripping, little-d!ck-having, deadbeat, lowlife, need-to-mind-ya-business, mods.
Happy Juneteenth, thanks for the ban! Gfys. Good luck trying to turn this sub into your sh!tty vision. Kinda like a deadbeat dad who wants to hang with his kid after the kid grows up and becomes rich. Pathetic. You're the dogsh!t scum underneath my shoe and you have 0 personality

2023.06.10 19:39 VeryTiredGirl93 [vent] Got rejected again, could appreciate some support
Not gonna go on a huge sad rant about how I have somehow managed to get to 30 without any one single person ever liking me romantically (u can probably scour my post history to find such rant tho). But yeah, for once i had thought i had found a person i enjoyed and was nice and wasn't judgmental about me being kind of an autistic shut in, and like clockwork, as soon as i tried to be direct about me liking her, i got rejected.
It's fine, she was nice about it and we'll probably be still friends. It's just that it honestly feel like every time i try to come out of my shell and prove to myself that i'm not unlovable and gross, the world is like "no actually u are". I just wish so much i was normal.
Would just appreciate some support/nice words/whatever right now, since this shit makes me spiral pretty easily at this point, and of course most of my friends are too busy to help/distract right now (love being the person who always tries to be there for her friends and then end up alone af whenever she's sad, always a fun experience)
Sorry for the vent, life sometimes kinda sucks
