I will be a new student in the fall for Anthropology. I am currently a park ranger in Montana till I drive 40 hours back to NC in August.
Any tips for a new student/person to Boone?
I have a place already but I don't know anyone... I was hoping there is like a movie or anime club since those are some of my interests. How did yall make friends? I am nervous bc I am living 30 mins off campus. I am worried it may make it hard to hang out but maybe I am overthinking :))

TL;DR: How would Sports, Fiction writing / Comics, and Music look in something like Roses, Tulips and Liberty?
Ok so, I was wondering more about small-time cultural aspects, more specifically sports, hobbies and other activities that would probably take off to industry-level more so between 1920 and onwards, especially in how it could define national pride and identity going into the Silent War.
Aspects like this had been expounded upon in various installments of the Atlas Altera project, but I was wondering about how north-american sports would be influenced, and propagated around the world, by a divergence as early as 1656.
I imagine Lacrosse would have a high popularity, perhaps under a more indigenous-sounding or dutch-sounding name, as the Iroquois have a far more significant historical and cultural impact upon the Dutch world, especially then upon New Netherlands and Tussenland. Would the sport propegate to some British colonies through Virginia? Would it become as prominent as any of the substrates of Association Football (Rugby, American Football, Football/Soccer, Gaelic Football, et cetera) that may come to develop? Hockey wouldn't exist without Canada (1875), so they're out of the question, but I imagine some sport played on ice would develop under the influence of the French, Amerikaens, or New-English. I have no doubt that there are versions of a football sport that could come to standardize and become prominent, but certainly not in the same ways. In 1602 there is a record of "hurling", which is pretty close to how modern American football is described.
Considering the idea of 'association football' wouldn't come to exist for another two centuries, would it even be a thing at all? would a football association come to standardize these ball-game rules in any capacity, even in places other than England? Obviously Olympic-style games would exist as well. A whole bunch of other sports as we know it wouldn't exist as well. Basketball wouldn't exist (1861), Volleyball (1895), Hockey as stated before, Bowling (~1905), Competitive Skiing (~1800s), et cetera.
Sports that did exist with clear and universal ground rules around the time of the point of divergence of RTL included Cricket, Tennis, Curling, Golf, Horse-Racing, Archery, and of course Lacrosse as stated previously. Another sport that is not often talked about, but mentioned within the Atlas Altera project as stated before, is the Mesoamerican Ball Game, known in modern Mexico as Pok-a-Tok and/or Ulama. Perhaps, something could be done with a nationally-advertised sport in RTL's Mexican Empire to become a center of Mexican pride, and maybe associations of the sport in other countries such as the AFS, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia and Opdamsland start to gain traction?
Competitive Archery is also incredibly ancient, so I imagine hundreds of nations could eventually create archery associations? Britain, Ireland, Tussenland (especially Irokeesenland) and Opdamsland would be all over it, I imagine. I imagine there'd be different associations for different kinds of bows, to keep English Longbowman traditions alive in some small social circles. Meanwhile, I imagine there'd be more niche derivatives such as the Corean Recurve or the Penobscot Bow which could have their own association circles or fan clubs. Could other Olympic-style sports gain smaller, separate followings? I could imagine Discus or becoming popular in some places. Some African sports could even gain prominence thanks to colonialism, such as Hama, also known as Nguni Stick-Fighting, which I could see gaining traction in Cape, Natal, and some of the other southern-African countries, even with their own associations. Maybe it'd stay a lot smaller and niche because of it's cultural significance..? who knows. Martial Arts, of course, would be all over the place. Especially Tae Kwon Do, within some Dutch circles I imagine, due to the Dutch's earlier connections to Corea. Would it spread to the Asian-Amerikaener and Asian-Mexican communities? Ngolo/Capoeira could also become popular amongst African-descended communities in the regions encompassing irl Brazil, both in terms of competitive dance and as a martial sport.
Beyond sports, another school of thought I wanted to explore were the arts. More specifically, comic books. Comic-style cartoons have existed since forever, but the modern ideas of the comic book, with detective stories, comedic teen dramas, and later superheroes, started in the 1910s and 1920s. Going into World War 2, Super Man and Captain America even became somewhat of propaganda tools, especially in terms of the European front. Would the Japanese arts take off in this way in this universe as well, with Manga becoming it's own special comic-book subgenre?
What would early Superheroes as a concept in RTL look like? Would there be a universally powerful paragon like Superman, perhaps under a different appearance? What country or community would be responsible for such a concept becoming popular? What kind of heroes would the industry produce for avid readers and fans, and would they even become propaganda tools used in RTL's Great War and Silent War? would Russia invent some of their own heroes as part of their National-Republican rhetoric?
IRL, the very first superhero was known as The Phantom, published in 1936 in his own comic run. Later you had Timely Comics Magazine, and there you had stories like Captain America, Human Torch, Namor, Jack Frost, et cetera. You also had Superman, created by Action Comics in 1938. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby later created all the modern Marvel superheroes you love today, such as Spider Man. So, would there be some sort of parallels to draw between these ideas? How would the industry of films or radio be affected by these stories? If these ideas don't exist as commonly at all in the public eye, what other fantastical stories come to fill the void?
of course I am not asking these superhero questions bc i want to make an Into the Spiderverse Spider-Man OC for the RTL-verse, that's just silly ahahahaha-

Musical genres are always growing and changing, and the European musical scene in the 1650s was largely dominated by classical and european and american folk music, not as much variety and very little was actually written down if there was anything subcultural or 'scene'. Which makes me wonder, what kind of music would develop and become popular in places like Virginia, Florida, New Netherlands, Tussenland? would Native-style music gain popularity and evolve within nations like Mexico, Opdamsland and the Native-heritage-dominated western rockies? would the Irokees develop their own version of percussion-heavy Bluegrass or something? I'd love to see something with the Amerikaens Voortrekker cultures and their own special brands of music that developed in their connections to Mexican/Spanish, TussenlandeDutch, Irokees, Russian, and various kinds of Native music. "Trekker Folk", it could be called. Or something.

Family, this afternoon we head to our nations capitol to take on the Washington Spirit. Since we had our hearts ripped out last with this team, they have dropped a bit in the standings, but not by much. Despite Washington not losing at home with 2 wins and 3 draws, we should be under no allusions that this wont be a tough match on the road.
🎶A Team with a dream with plans to make P.O.I.N.T.S Still Strugglin, Survival got us Buggin Life as a new club shouldn't be so rough Still Strugglin🎶
Took the climb to the top of mountain peak of HYPE to speak to our YASS QUEEN! Not going to sugarcoat it, she was pretty stern face and matter of fact. Along the lines of acknowledging our situation, she made it very clear, that it is time to start making our own luck. It is that simple, no more feeling angry and sorry for ourselves because the zebra can't do his job well, its just time to get results and judge this club based on that. And yes, she did acknowledge the return of the Sycho Sid, but was not impressed with the lack of three points at home.
🎶Our lives got no better, same damn 'Lo Sweater (place in the standings) Times is rough and tough like leather Figured out we went the wrong route (down the table) So we got to get with a sick tight click (rotation and formation) and go all out🎶

2023.06.10 18:50 World-Nomad In a predicament, I think I would like to upgrade my set, but having some issues.
I’m fairly new to golf. Been paying about 3-4 seasons, no lessons, mostly because I’m in a rural location with not many coaches around. I’m 6’3” playing with old orange dot Ping G2 standard length clubs (most of the weights have fallen out). I have a Taylormade R7 driver. I play nine holes at a time, rarely 18. So on nine, my best score is a 45 and I range up to low 50s. I’d rather buy clubs off a place like Callaway preowned, but you can’t try them out, and I don’t really know my specs. I called Austad’s, and they will let you try all of the brands and could figure out all of my specs, but mostly with only new equipment that will cost $2500-3000. That’s way too much for me. So what do you do? If I got lessons, could that person advise me on what to buy off the internet? Or just go to a fitter with my old clubs hoping they’ll give me some guidance? Just keep my old clubs and get lessons until my scores get better?

Especially here in ADHD subreddit where we have such capacity for out-of-the-box thinking and looking past the status quo.
Like many of you, I've often felt hopeless and out of place within the confines of capitalism. However, before we lose all hope, there are a few things worth considering that might inspire you to connect the dots on your own.
Several comments on that post expressed frustration with capitalism, the relentless pursuit of maximizing shareholder value, and the perpetual need to work. While it may seem like there are no other options, that's not necessarily true.
There is a case for a scenario where work, as we currently understand it, becomes optional.
We often use the phrase "earning a living" to describe the necessity of working just to survive in today's system. This holds true in the current system but let's explore things from a different perspective.
As they are today, advancements in technology, automation, robotics, and AI, are enough to sustain most of everyone’s basic needs (things you need to survive, to live). Things like food and other necessities can be produced in abundance and distributed for free.
When something can be produced at little to no cost and in abundant quantities, its value or price can** plummet or even disappear altogether (check out the concept of scarcity). This could give a whole new meaning to the phrase "earning a living."
Work could become voluntary (e.g.: to give you an option to work, so you can obtain non-basic/luxury products that currently cannot be produced at no-cost - if you so desire).

Voluntary work? So, no one would work like ever? Yes and No. Some people might choose not to work, but I believe that majority would want to work, here is why:
I was on holiday this week, away from the city. The first 2-3 days I went exploring the forests, mountains, lakes, I then did a whole lot of nothing, chilling out. Days were long, nice, and relaxing.
On day 4, I felt like working, not on the things I have to do for my job but on my own projects, ideas. Imagine the amount of creativity and innovation that can come from people working on things they are interested in, because they want to.
Without 'I have to go to work tomorrow' to put the food on the table hanging over their heads.
The point here is that not everyone can do nothing forever; most people would eventually become bored and seek productive activities. And if they happen to contribute to sustaining, maintaining, improving, or innovating the new system (that provides all our basic needs for free), they could be compensated. This compensation would enable them to acquire the luxury products that currently cannot be produced at low or no cost, should they desire them.
This is just a small glimpse of what's possible. It's not science fiction; many individuals and communities worldwide are actively designing, prototyping, and even running small-scale trials of such systems. There are people out there, just like you and me, thinking and working on realistic solutions.
Achieving this won't be easy or quick, but it's absolutely possible, and it's happening today.
You may or may not be familiar with the various names, labels, theories, and definitions associated with the concept I briefly described. At this point, I don't want to attach any particular names or labels because everything is a work in progress with nothing set in stone.
It can be anything you can imagine. With enough people agreeing on a general direction, at any scale, a club, community, city, country... wanting and working towards getting there... It may even turnout that it's easier than you think.

 | My average distance coming into today was 215 yards (with rollout). Today averaged out at 233, with 3 drives over 250 yards. I didn't make any swing changes, just felt really good with this club today. 2023.06.10 18:20 Rossmonster Help with classing a fairly modified 2016 GTI
I've been building the car for road course use but with the price of everything going up I am looking to do more autocross events. I've done three events but never on a competitive level. I was curious if I could get some help on what my car's class would be. I do have all stock parts and could remove or swap back to OEM parts if that is recommended, however I do love how the car currently handles. I've listed some of what I believe to be more critical mods that may result in a jump to a higher class but can list the full mods if anyone is interested.
Hood louvers (bc it's required cutting the hood, does that count as a body panel?)
Turbo swap to an is38 (golf R turbo)
Bigger front and rear anti sway bars
Club Sport S steering knuckles for extra camber
Coilovers with camber plates (currently at zero and have not cut the strut towers)
SuperPro front lower control arms
Euro Sport front strut and rear x brace (rear x brace required drilling and using riv nuts)
Engine Oil cooler
High flow catted downpipe with stock cat backpack exhaust
OEM brake calipers with SS lines and slotted rotors
There are several other aftermarket parts on the car but it's still stock interior as I also daily drive it. I think the above lost of parts is more critical for classing but can provide any other details or list of other mods if needed. Definitely appreciate the help. It's a little overwhelming reading through all the rules and I want toake sure I class appropriately. TIA!

I have a set of Cleveland CBX’s, I bought them at a local golf outlet store. They carry rental clubs from courses after 2-3 years of use. I got the whole set for under $500. There is some wear and tear, but nothing crazy.
I used to golf as a kid a lot, and stopped for many years. I got back into it 2 years ago and am starting to play more. I shoot high 80s, low 90s most times. Recently, I figured I wanted get a new set. So here I am, I found a 2021 M4 Taylormade package set for $1400. Is it worth it?
Also, what does it mean to get “fitted”? Is it worth it?

Some background; I’ve only been playing golf for about 5 years, I’m 30 now. My starter set was a combo of my dad’s old clubs and my buddy’s Taylormade R9s. I’d like to say I’ve improved my game quite a bit since starting out but I’m still an incredibly high handicapper and haven’t broken 100, or even 110.
With all that said, I purchased my first new set of clubs and I got the Callaway Edge set from Costco with the graphite shafts. Set comes with Driver, 3W, 5H, and 6-9 irons, PW/SW and White Hot Odyssey putter. To me, it’s a great set for my skill level and budget (I’m a teacher… so broke).
I took those suckers to the driving range yesterday and holy forgiveness. I’ve never hit all of my clubs so straight before. I’m taking them out for their first round today so I’ll update later how they work on the course/with fairways shrinking down.

Hi guys. After 8 years I started to play Skyrim Se again.
For my mods I use "MO2" "Nemesis" "Loot" "Bodyslide" (FNIS)
After my first try with the mods my game crashed every 2 minutes. So I reinstalled everything. 15Hours later everything was set up and fine.
My game looks very good, new animations and so on.
I was able to play it, but it is not perfect.

For my mods I use "MO2" "Nemesis" "Loot" "Bodyslide" (FNIS)
After my first try with the mods my game crashed every 2 minutes. So I reinstalled everything. 15Hours later everything was set up and fine.
My game looks very good, new animations and so on.
I was able to play it, but it is not perfect.
Here are my MAIN PROBLEMS.
- ks physics does not work. I used Bodyslike to implement them. (Hair physics)
- CBPC equipment physics does not work.
- I can't activate many mods ingame in my MCM, like "Smooth cam" settings or presets are not saved.
- outfits and cloaks have no physics either. ( tries to implement them with bodyslide)
