2023.06.10 19:34 AutoModerator r/dataengineering will be joining the blackout from June 12-14 to protest the proposed API changes which will end 3rd party apps.

See here for the original dataengineering thread on this issue.

What's going on?

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface.
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?
  1. Complain. Message the mods of reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
  2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
  3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
  4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

Any communication during the blackout will be made via our official mailing list. Please sign up if you wish to receive updates.

2023.06.10 19:33 L3-Bilibili Descent mode, Solo, Loop 24, 5 hours 40 min, and share some tips

The game didn't crash
The characters didn't die
and the game network accelerator didn't disconnect
But Me,really can't hold it, too tired. 6 Hours.

https://preview.redd.it/dfisqktuo75b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83a60ef0ea652b7550bf6a08ceadc2b243b0dcf1
It is currently 11th on the list, which is not bad
I only bought level 10 accuracy +“Get a random talent at start”upgrades in DC and nothing else.

What I got:
  1. 30 season levels
  2. 21 chests, including 2 exotic weapon chests (one of which is supposed to be a weekly quest, the other may be a season pass)
  3. Expert skill points 40+ (When I heard this game will have a new mode, I was very happy, thinking that could be a good mode just like survival mode in TD1, so I created a new account)

That's all the rewards. Nothing. And very little fun.
And if you quit this mode, the progress will clear to zero!
Take loop 40 as the end point,It will take at least another 10 hours to play. Starting from 15th loop, there will be 3 waves of enemies in each room.

Overall, the cost of failure in this model is too high, resulting in high levels of frustration and very little positive feedback. (Game crash ,network,PC reboot ETC, and u can not save ur progress!)

Even in the late stage, the player's skills, talents, every are build up in good shape, there is not much fun.
Because similar experiences, or even better experiences, can be played in normal mode, even more comfortable, such as hunter suits and strike suits.

If you want to play this mode, I also give you some tips:

In the first 5 loop:
From Loop 6:

After killing Namesis

Each time you enter the room:
  1. Choose a safe corner according to the terrain
  2. ambush the door where the enemy appears+next to ur safe corner.
  3. Try to kill these enemy at the start of each wave, so that half of the entire room is safe for u in next 20 seconds. During this time, fine enemy's position. Take them one by one, using run-shoot(just like cod) if necessary, to avoid being redefended by the remaining enemy.
  4. Try to get back to the safe zone before you kill the last enemy in the wave.
  5. High ground usually has advantages, but some maps are longer, and high ground is not a safe place, in this kinf of map ,you need to go to low areas, and try to block doors and clear a safe zone.
  6. Killing bosses is easy because of the size of the map.
  7. In DC u can buy Elite enemy protection upgrades, this seems to be unique, no talent in speed Descent can provide.
  8. I don't upgrade my skill strength at all, after killing a BOSS, I increase my armor depending on how easy it is for the enemy to crush my armor. if i think i am safe ,i will upgrade firepower
Ohter:

Overall, I wouldn't spend another 6 hours playing this mode
Since Namesis can only be killed once, the rest of the game is not much fun, your equipment and skills are grow up and become perfect, but the challenge(Namesis) is gone.

Changes I hope UBi could make:

2023.06.10 19:27 YungJDubz420 Dealer tells me issues on my new car isn't covered

I purchased a 2022 Honda Civic from a dealership in Southern California last March. I live in Norther California so I have been the car serviced at another dealership nearby my place. Couple months ago, a warning for adaptive cruise control failure popped up on my dashboard and has been there since then. Since I never use the cruise control, I figured I'd just wait till I get my car serviced again to get it checked out.
My car recently hit 15000 miles so last week I took my car in for service (oil change) and was told that the express service guys can't help me look at the problem with the cruise control so the adviser scheduled a regular service for me this Saturday. After the express service last week, I was told that my rear shock absorbers are leaking also and they will look at it when I bring it in today.
I brought my car to the dealer to get it checked out today, and was told that the rear shock absorbers that's leaking don't fall under the warranty. I asked the adviser that since the part isn't supposed to fail within a year and half and 15000 miles why is it not covered? I was essentially told that since the part isn't supposed to fail that quickly I must have done something to break it so it isn't covered. By that logic what is the point of having warranty? If any part fails they can just cliam "oh it isn't supposed to fail so you must have done something and borke it:"
For issue with the adaptive cruise control, they told me that they need to do a diagnostics to figure out which part is causing the issue. If the part that's causing the issue falls under warrnty and they'll fix it for free. If not, they are going to charge me $210 for just the diagnostics alone.
I was also told that the extended warranty I had purchased from the from the SoCal dealership is through a third party and that third party isn't a partner with the NorCal Honda so it's basically useless.
I left my car at the dealership to do the diagnostics and I am waitinfg for them to call me back. I am just so frustrated with this whole situation and I need some advice on how I should proceed. If they call me back and tells me the part that is causing the adaptive cruise control to fail doesn't fall under warranty what should I do? Also what can I do about the whole third party extended warranty situation?
I apologize for the long post and any help is appreciated!

2023.06.10 19:19 weirdaue r/BTOB will be going dark from 12-14th of June, 2023, to protest the changes to Reddit's API pricing

Hello fellow Melodies, and welcome to BTOB!
The mod team of BTOB has decided to join the protest to go dark due to the recent changes in Reddit's policy against the 3rd Party apps.

What's the Situation?

On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third-party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader and numerous others. ('API Calls' are how apps get information from Reddit's main servers to present to you).
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. In addition, many 3rd party apps offer functions for those differently abled, such as blind users, functions that do not exist in Reddit's official app.
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What's the Plan?

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going private (going 'dark') to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours, on June 14th. Others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love. (Going private means means that only approved users will be able to access the subreddit. Since most subs don't use 'approved user' functions, this means basically no one will be able to access those subreddits during that time.)
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.

2023.06.10 19:16 Busy_Student8736 I(20M) kept insisting my girlfriend (20F) for something

I (20M) and my gf(20F) were doing stuff and i am constantly asking if i can do anything for her? If she is comfortable? Does she need my hand anywhere specific? If i can take her clothes off? If i can kiss her? She wanted me to finger her and i did. Then sometime later i asked her for fingerin her. She said maybe later. Sometime later i thought this might be the moment and i slid my hands inside her underpants. She said no no no and i just removed my hands instantly then we started again. Some moments later while rubbing i asked if i could finger her She got fed up and left and said u kept insisting even when i didnt want to She says she feels violated, disrespected and trust broken I apologised about my mistake and tried ensuring her this wont happen again. I myself didn’t believe this happened because i was asking consent and seeking her comfort throughout and something like this happened out of nowhere(even she was confused about this)
We tried it again after some days and we both weren’t comfortable with anything else except kisses so we decides to give it time and take one step at a time
We have a perfect emotional relationship but the physical discomfort she has might be the reason of our break up Is there any other solution to this??
TL;DR: Please give solutions only no advices

2023.06.10 19:15 Express-Wave-95 DD5 v4 upper vise block question

Hey all. I have a noob question. Don't do much with AR uppers but I use a Geissele reaction rod what I have to change all the muzzle device on my AR-15s. They do make one for the AR-10 but Geissele specifically says it's not compatible with the dd5v4 in 308 I just bought.
So:
  1. What makes the dd5v4 different? I thought it was a standard AR-10 platform?
  2. What device would you recommend to secure it to a vice and allow me to torque down a new muscle device properly without breaking anything?
Thanks

Becoming acquainted with your heart. Two lessons in spirituality from Father Goat.
Good morning. It is I, Goat Bieber.

This is a quick trick I'm cooking up in my Uber.

This test has given us all severe tachycardia and heart arrhythmias, we can all agree on that.
We can't even look at this shit anymore

But can a heart attack while driving be... negligent? Read on to find out.

This is me every day driving to the courthouse
The MBE occasionally likes to test this scenario where someone is driving and they have a heart attack or stroke and pass out and kill a bunch of people.
The basic rule is this: If the person KNEW of their heart condition or tendency to have strokes and they still drove, they are negligent, since it is FORESEEABLE.
If they did NOT know of their heart condition or stroke and it was the FIRST TIME they had ever had one... it will not be negligent (you can't get in trouble for just having a random heart attack lmao).
So that is that...
FIRST TIME HEART ATTACK: NOT NEGLIGENT
SECOND TIME HEART ATTACK: NEGLIGENT
If someone presents evidence that it was a first time heart attack and the other side can't refute it, they will win on a summary judgment motion.

Let's do one more trick

Let's talk hotels.

Picture I took from an underground room I stayed in at the Burj Khalifa this summer

I'm going to shoot you all straight: the MBE loves this one bullshit scenario of "full hotel" vs. "empty hotel" when talking about Res Ipsa Loquitur. Let's break it down gang.

Me and the Goat Gang hella pissed off at these tricks

The scenario is this: Sometimes a piano will fall out of a hotel full of guests and hit someone in the head.

Just like this
No res ipsa here. Because the hotel WAS FULL OF GUESTS. THE HOTEL WORKERS DIDNT HAVE EXCLUSIVE CONTROL OF THE PIANO YO.
It could have been ANY OF THOSE GUESTS WHO THREW THE PIANO OUT... STOP... PLAYING WITH ME.

Scenario two: A piano falls out of a hotel... but the hotel has NO GUESTS.... only hotel workers.

Now we can RES-IPSATIZE the hotel because they had EXCLUSIVE CONTROL OF THE INSTRUMENTALITY THAT INJURED OUR BOY.
This trick isn't bad, but it comes up almost every time and I wanted Goat Gang to re-hash it.
Thanks everyone.
I dedicate this post to QuizMasterLaw. I am sorry I had to ban him. His schizo ramblings were meaningful to all of us, and he had thousands of free e-Books. But in the final estimation of things... I realized he was a scammer from Senegal who had never taken the Bar Exam and was very possibly under the influence of crystal meth. May the brave souls at BarExam take care of him.

2023.06.10 19:11 msbump This subreddit will be going dark on June 12th-14th in protest of Reddit's API changes

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .

This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

What is "Going Dark"?

"Going dark" means a subreddit will become private or read-only. It is a voluntary action taken by moderators to collectively protest and raise awareness within the Reddit community.

2023.06.10 19:08 ruin777 There is a particular staircase that no student is allowed to use in my school. I now know why…

I always wondered why we were never able to use this staircase in school, but the teachers, staff and the headmaster were able to use them. I never knew where the bottom of the staircase was, because I always saw the teachers walking up the stairs but never walking down the stairs. In every assembly, the headmaster ordered us not to use the staircase, though we already knew not to.
One time, the class clown said he was going to go down the staircase that we weren’t supposed to use, and our physics teacher grabbed him and she screamed at him to not go down there. He ended up sitting back down, snickering as some students were whispering to each other and some exchanged confused glances with one another.
This made me more fixated on knowing more about the staircase. I’d wander around the school, looking to find where the bottom of the staircase was, but I’d never find it. I’d spend my break time asking different people about what they know about the staircase, and if they knew any rumors about them. Every rumor they’d say, I’d write down in my notebook. One rumor someone said was that a student in the 7th grade went down the staircase and was never seen again. Another rumor was that our maths teacher kills anyone who goes down the staircase. Though most of the rumors sounded quite stupid, I still wrote them down.
At some point, my friend Josh started noticing how curious I was about the staircase. Josh was quite a fearless guy. He would do anything dangerous, as if he was on a suicide mission, like the time when we had a science experiment and he thought that touching the bunsen burner would be a good idea. He ended up getting severe 3rd degree burns on his hand, which took around a year to heal, and also became the prime example of what not to do in a science experiment. That was only one of the things he did, but I won't go into detail about the others..
2 days ago, as we were sitting on one of the benches after school, Josh asked “Why don’t you just go down the stairs?”
“I don’t want to get suspended, I have a good record unlike you,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“I have a plan though.”
“It better not be stupid….”
That’s when he pulled a notebook out of his bag, and drew two stick figures.
“The one with the smiley face is me, and the one with the sad face is you. Do you understand?” He said.
“I do.”
“We’re going to do this pretty early. About 3 or 4am… we’re going to break into the school. Don’t worry though, I’ve done it before and succeeded.” He started to draw a gate, then drew the stick figure representing me climbing over, and the stick figure representing him over the gate, as it waited for me to climb down.
“This plan is kind of stupid,” I said, observing his rushed drawings.
“Do you want to see what’s under those stairs or not?”
“I do…”
“Then listen. So after we break in, we’ll need to be pretty quiet. No talking until we actually get into the building. We’ll need flashlights, so we’ll both bring our phones. When we get into the building you need to follow me. The stairs are near where our classroom is, remember?” He explained, with a moderately harsh tone. That’s how I knew he was serious.
“Okay, it kind of makes sense… I’m gonna go now though, tomorrow we’ll go through the plan again. Make sure to write it down, see you tomorrow Josh!” I said, picking up my backpack and leaving.
The next day, at break, Josh showed me his notebook which contained a detailed plan, explaining exactly what he had said the day before, but in more depth. Though I was hesitant to go through with the plan, I did really want to see those stairs….I had been so determined to know every single thing about those stairs, and this was like a once in a lifetime chance for me. So I agreed to the plan. That was yesterday.
I had my alarm set for 2:30 am. I got ready which took about 20 minutes. At around 2:55 am, I was out the house. From my house to my school was walking distance, so it was easy for me to get there. When I got there, I was quite surprised to see Josh already there, in front of the gate, looking at the floor.
“Oh you’re here already? Should we start now?” He asked.
“Yeah sure, why not?” I said.
That’s when he started climbing up the gate. I made sure to watch his technique so I could do the same when he was done. He climbed up the gate fairly quickly, then climbed down the gate, and he was in.
“Your turn.”
I slowly started climbing the gate, my arms shaking a bit every time I climbed higher. Eventually I was able to get down.
“Okay, now to get inside the building we need to use the back of the building. There’s a door there, and for some reason it’s never locked,” He whispered, and I nodded.
We started walking at a fast pace, making sure not to step on anything that would make noise.
When we finally entered the building, I followed Josh. Using the flashlight on my phone, we slowly made our way up the stairs, being careful of our surroundings. After what felt like forever, we finally found the staircase.
“Are you ready?” He whispered.
“Of course.”
We started going down, step by step. It looked normal, and I didn’t get why we couldn’t use it. As we were going down further and further, a foul odor hit my nose, and started getting stronger and stronger as we went down.
“What is that smell?” I asked, holding my nose with one hand and holding my phone with the other.
“You smell it too? It’s horrible,” He said. Though the smell was tormenting our nostrils, we kept on going. I started getting quite tired. I felt like I had been waking down those stairs for an eternity. At some point, as I continued to point my flashlight downwards, I saw something. Something abnormal… out of this world. I held Josh’s arm so he wouldn’t go down any more steps. He was about to open his mouth to speak until he also saw what i was seeing, and immediately closed his mouth.
We saw darkness. But in that darkness were faces. Some were crying, some were smiling. But as they looked directly into our eyes, their faces became angry. Full of hatred. They started screaming, and shouting unintelligible words. They reached their arms out to us. That’s when the darkness started rising, and I screamed at Josh to run, hyperventilating as tears streamed down my face.
I rapidly ran up the stairs, as the darkness slowly consumed our every step. As Josh was running though, he tripped up a step and fell. I screamed, and heard the sound of synchronized laughter and the sound of Josh screaming in agony and terror, as the creatures pulled him into the void. I kept running up and up the stairs and didn’t dare to look behind me. Somehow I was able to reach the top of the stairs, and when I did I collapsed to the floor, shaking uncontrollably, tears still streaming down my face as I covered my face, screaming.
Someone tapped my shoulder, and as I uncovered my face I realized it was my physics teacher. She stared at me, with a mix of emotions on her face. She held her hand out, gesturing me to get up. When I got up I realized she wasn’t the only one there… all the teachers that taught my class were there, in a line all staring at me. Some were crying, some just stared blankly at me with no expression.
“You’re going to have to go to the headmasters office, I’m sorry..” She said, her voice slightly quivering.
When we arrived, she opened the door and as she shut it, I heard the sound of the door locking. That’s when I realized, this wasn’t the headmasters office….
That was a few hours ago, now i’m still here. My phone’s on 46%, and I’m just sitting here, wondering if it was worth it. I should’ve just listened. Now I’ve lost my best friend and I’m going to rot here, and if anyone finds me they’ll only find my decaying body. I’m posting this for everyone to know my story, and to say goodbye.

2023.06.10 19:04 MonsieurJongleur Why Reddit is no longer my home on the internet

First of all, I support the blackout, and believe it should go on indefinitely. However, that will not be my decision, as I will be removing myself as head moderator, and deleting all my comments.
I fundamentally believe that if you don't like how a site treats its users, then the only real leverage you have is not to participate. Especially moderators, who put in the hours to make the site enjoyable for the average reader. Without moderators, most spaces on the internet are spammy, hateful, and bleak. That being said, it’s not like I plan to nuke this community. If paratactical and the rest of the modteam want to continue fighting the good fight, I’m not going to stand in their way.
It was difficult to articulate my thoughts without falling back to a basic "the only winning move is not to play," which can also be fairly interpreted as "taking your ball and going home." I don't really care how other people characterize it, but it's personally annoying to me to not be able to explain my position.
Then I read the Corey Doctorow essay, The Enshittification of Tiktok: How Platforms Die which clarified my ideas immensely, so I thought I'd share, in my last act of content creation.
It's really worth reading, but the outline is this:
1) a platform needs users to exist, so at first, it serves the users, until the users are locked in.
2) then, it needs advertising to be profitable, so then it serves businesses, until the businesses are locked in. Obviously, this is unenjoyable for the users, but the platform deserves to make money, right? So, we try to ignore the fact that we are the product, and our allegiance to the platform is actually just a tool to maximize value extraction.
3) Finally, the investors want to get paid, and that means they have to maximize the value extracted from the advertisers AND the users. Which is where we are today on reddit. Spez can't have 20% of the users not being served ads, even if they are the power users-- moderators, content contributors, or commentors.

Every Eyeball is Equal Under Spez

Except /blind. Sorry about your luck!
People like to point out Participation Inequality, the fact of life that 90% of users are lurkers. But from an enshittification perspective, it doesn't matter that they're lurkers. As long as their eyeballs land on ads, they're worth just as much as the most active supermod.
Or are they?
I left Instagram once I stopped being able to see only the people I followed, in reverse chrono order. Facebook even earlier than that, because they started hiding the posts of the local businesses I WANTED to follow-- how else will I see which act is playing on Thursday nights at my local watering hole?
Clearly, Facebook and Instagram still exist. Whether they are enjoyable to visit or engage on is neither here nor there. So the 'death' of platforms that Doctorow posits is more of an existential death -- the platforms lose what made them dynamic and engaging, which is the creativity and authentic engagement of their userbase.

Rumors of Reddit’s imminent death are exaggerated*

*due to the skewed incentives in the venture class
Reddit won't die evenly. /AskHistorians, which has extremely high moderation standards, and is already struggling under the huge influx of nonsense ChatGPT comments will probably lock itself down.
More casual communities, like /DIY or /Gardening, will probably still enjoy authentically user-generated content, and subs like /whatisthisthing and /tipofmytongue can continue to have casual commentary that is simple to produce (in contrast to long-form, thoughtful, in-depth contributions like in AskHistorians)
And of course, that's the experience of reddit as it currently exists. But with more limited mod tools (see this AskHistorians thread for receipts on how long reddit has been promising effective tools for) I'd expect to see a steep decline in the quality of the content in aggregate.
Think about the number of repost bots. The number of comment-stealing bots. The amount of astroturfing and spam that you see on the daily, the stuff that gets through the current tools. Now take those tools away.
I mean, it'll be like Facebook, only with more porn. So clearly that won't be a dealbreaker for a lot of users. But it's a dealbreaker for me.
But of course it’s not like they’re going to turn the servers off. FFS, even Twitter still has the lights on, in spite of its laughable mismanagement. They’re not going to turn the servers off until they’ve extracted every bit of profit they can. How long did Google+ stay online until someone mercifully pulled the plug? 2019

So long, and thanks for all the fish

I don’t need to convince you to take your ball and go home. Stay if you like. I’ll probably maintain at least one open account to occasionally post on /whatisthisbug, in the same way that I occasionally log into Facebook to check out baby pictures shared by people I went to high school with.
But it won’t be my home.
It won’t be a place I commit time and energy and engagement to. I won’t follow subs I’m expert in and try to contribute answers when people ask questions. I won’t create content to share, and I definitely won’t moderate. I will treat it like the extractive relationship that it is-- get what I want out of the platform while leaving as few of my personal details behind for them to leverage.
It’s kind of ironic, actually, that the reddit that hates personal promotion will create a site where the only people who will bother making content will be doing it with the intent to monetize it somehow. (Which I am all for! The makers and indie creators who are doing the work of really top tier content creation. Rather you do that than PPC!)
I only want to make you aware, as I was pleased to discover, that it’s not that I am “getting too old” for a given platform, but simply that I remember when a given platform was less shitty than it is now.
And it's gotten shitty for a foundational reason, as inescapable as the turn of the seasons - the extractive nature of accepting VC funding means that the platform is obliged, little-by-little, to ruin it, in pursuit of investor returns.
To fix this you’d have to ban investing, which would simultaneously kill many of the weird moonshots we enjoy about the internet, past and present. So.

All you can do is pay attention to when your platform of choice passes your personal threshold of enshittening -- whether that’s Reddit, Twitter, or Facebook; Uber, Lyft, AirBNB; Amazon, eBay, Paypal -- and invest your energy into something new.

2023.06.10 19:01 lgndTAT /r/MonsterHunterStories will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

What can you do as a user?

What can you do as a moderator?

Thank you for your patience in the matter,
-Mod Team

2023.06.10 19:01 webvan213 Downlading movies from Bflix (Ant Video works but stutters) ?

I was trying to download a movie from Bflix.u for a train trip the other day and came across this thread https://www.reddit.com/questions/comments/mxwf4d/does\_anyone\_know\_how\_to\_download\_movies\_from\_bflix/ about this very question. The suggestion of using Ant Video downloader worked (after jumping through a few setup hoops, like downloading the "native app" for stitching to happen), great !
...except not quite because either the audio stutters in VLC or the video stutters in WMP.
Anyone got a fix ? Thanks !

2023.06.10 19:00 KnightroUCF r/Forensics is going dark on June 12th

This subreddit will be joining in on the June 12th-14th protest of Reddit's API changes that will essentially kill all 3rd party Reddit apps.

How does it affect forensics?

Reddit is a business and needs to be sustainable. No one disputes that. But instead of providing reasonable pricing, reasonable timelines, or reasonable communication with these third-party applications that have made Reddit accessible (and arguably more enjoyable) to the masses for years, Reddit has decided to price them out of existence entirely.
Furthermore, in the days since the announced policy change, it has come to light that Reddit has been less than transparent and ethical in their handling of this change. As a community reliant on evidence, it's hard for us to give Reddit the benefit of the doubt given the facts that have been presented.
At Forensics, we are a community of forensic science professionals who are passionate about what we do, and pride ourselves on providing access to actual forensic knowledge to the masses when questions arise. But key values of our community are transparency and ethics. Without transparency and ethics, no honest discourse can be trusted to happen.
As such, our moderation team has decided that on June 12th, forensics will be joining the over 3,500 other subreddits that will be going dark in protest of these changes. While some subreddits have announced their return dates, forensics will not be doing so. It may be 48 hours, it may be longer. While we are a small community, we believe that it is our responsibility to participate in protesting these changes.

What's the plan?

On June 12th, [many subreddits](https://old.reddit.com/ModCoord/comments/1401qw5/incomplete\_and\_growing\_list\_of\_participating/) will be going dark to protest this policy.

2023.06.10 18:57 human_jpg Acne while on clean keto. What could be the cause?

My current keto diet consists of no dairy, gluten, soy, peanuts, beef, eggs or stevia yet my skin is breaking out quite a bit. I have no idea why this could be happening given that i am trying to avoid processed meats as well.
My drinks and meals usually consist of matcha latte with coconut cream or stir fry with spinach, low carb vegetables and pork, chicken or seafood using lard or duck fat, maybe one slice of Keto bread and keto clusters as a snack.
I l feel like the moment I go back to carbs my skin gets better but it makes no sense to me and would rather stay on keto for cognitive enhancement.
I even stopped eating Pork rinds thinking it could be the culprit but still breaking out.
Did anybody experience the same and managed to fix it? What was the cause?

2023.06.10 18:56 UsualAmbitious AITA for getting my coworker let go

I (17NB) feel incredibly guilty for getting my coworker let go. Yesterday I came into my work, (which I will only say is at a camp that is often understaffed) and it was one of those days where I came in with not the greatest mindset for working and I was prepared to do what I usually do which is cleaning dishes and taking out the trash and then some. During my shift yesterday my coworker asked me to do something that I didn’t usually do and i was fine with it. After I did it she told me that I needed to redo it and some part of me started to lose control of my emotions and I started feeling like crying but I held it in. Once I did it she told me to redo it as I missed a few (albeit minor) details that I had forgotten. And that’s when my emotions got the better of me and I started to bawl but I was trying to hide it to keep working. It was a combined factor of the unhealthy mindset from when I came into work and thinking about the pile of dishes that I had to do along with me redoing all of the containers I had to put away that I started to cry. She told me to take a break so I did. Afterwards I felt better and I apologized a lot for what I did and I still feel guilty, this morning (around 9 or so) my boss called me and let me know that she had to let my coworker go due to what I did.
Right now I’m in the break room and I’m able to hear them talking and some of it sounded like yelling and I’m so scared and I feel so guilty about what I did and im genuinely sorry for how I acted and I don’t know if there even is a way to fix my actions. So I mostly need advice on what I could do to make sure this doesn’t happen again and how to avoid it happening and for me to have the closure on if I was in the wrong.
Edit:
I feel as if I missed a few details
My boss learned about it through my coworker telling my boss about it. Also due to my crying my coworker told me to go take a break so I took about a half hour break.
I’m feeling distressed and I didn’t put this down but. My boss talked to me after it all happened and she talked to me about how everything there has been tense due to how my coworker have to get a food manager’s card or something like that which from what I know needs a lot of studying and I wasn’t in the loop about it. And we’ve been going from cook to cook (which was the position my coworker had/has) because a lot of them weren’t necessarily cut out for the job.
More info (edit):
I have been through rougher campers with larger amounts before and previously I never felt overwhelmed with work and just yesterday I then became overwhelmed and cried which I feel so guilty over. (The largest group I’ve had so far was about 100)
Also I worked at this place last year as well but it was with a different boss and a different cook/head chef and a lot of things were run differently to how they are now, at the place I’m working at a lot of us have been failing to follow the health code in the state I’m in so a part of the pressure is us trying to turn our kitchen around so we follow the code a lot better. Another thing to add onto the pressure is a massive camp of around 150 is coming in. I have worked with those ones last year and we are getting more employees around that time so thank god honestly.
